Liverpool Police

Post by carole01 »

Hi there. Does anyone know if there is a website or other records available which would give me any information about serving police officers in Liverpool in the 1920s?
Many thanks
Carole

Hi

Archives for the Police Force or what remains of them are held at

The Merseyside Police Museum
Canning Place, Liverpool
Tel 0151 709 6010 ex 2100/2099.

The address below will give you details of what records survive. At Liverpool Record Office there are the Watch Committee minutes 352 MIN/WAT. These will not give you personel details, however you should be able to get the dates of when your ancestor was recruited and his police number.

Shaun Rothwell who gave the Society talk on Tuesday evening, also suggested the Rootsweb messageboard, apparently there are people there who are willing to help if they can.

I have just had some good luck finding a number of newspaper articles re my ancestor John ANGUS, Inspector about 1836-1840's. Might suggest accessing the Liverpool Mercury online papers.... (MaryA suggested this to me and it is a great resource)
