hi i am finding it very dificult to to trace my gg grandfathers family[ william cummins] all i no is that he was born in about 1850 i think in birkenhead was buried in flaybrick cemetary birkenhead he married sarah randals [denbigh] they had two children mary alice cummins [my grandmother]sibling john or jack cummins
William CUMMINS married Sarah RANDLES according to www.freebmd.org.uk in December Quarter 1883 Birkenhead Registration District volume 8a page 725
If you do not have this marriage certificate I strongly advise you to purchase the certificate. It will give you the father's names of the couple and help yu move backwards with your family tree. You can either order it from the GRO or if you go to www.cheshirebmd.org.uk you will find that the marriuage took place at Birkenhead St peter. From that site you can download the form and send it to the local register office and they will send you the copy certificate

FreeBMD:
Deaths Mar 1891 - Cummins, William - 41 - Birkenhead - 8a - 354.
As Education Officer says, you definitely need his marriage certificate to find his father's name. There are very few candidates in the 1881 census in Cheshire but you need to start further back, say 1861, once you have that name.

Hi everyone
Wm is a toughie, he married after 81 census & died before 91 census.
Marriage cert as you have said is the only way to go.
There's a Wm born Lpool in 3 census living in Coppenhall Monks Ches.
2 with parents, last one with his Mum.
Worth keeping to one side.

Hi Jimmy,
You could contact Birkenhead Reference Library who may look up the burial register for you, for Flaybrick Hill Cem.

Hi Jimmy,
Wouldn't be too concerned about the different ages between the GRO index record I found and the age on the gravestone. Back then there could be a couple of years in the difference. Often the only 'proof' of age was a marriage certificate, and even that wasn't 100% reliable.
