I am researching a great uncle and can find him in the all the census returns with the exception of the 1891
I would welcome any advice on how to proceed.

Yes things are often mistranscribed...
If you can't find a family, sometimes it is worth just searching on one or two of the christian names... Found this one by searching for Edith with mother Caroline and then looked through the results for a surname that looked similar
