William Pinnington.

Post by pammie »

Hi,
thank you so much for the help with the southerns. i am back to ask for a bit of help with william pinnington. I know he was born in 1856 listed west derby. I then find a census record in 1881 when he is 25 marriet to margaret ann pinnington, his mother ellen pinnington is living with them but that was 3 years before my great grandad thomas pinnington was born. That is the last i can find of them till the ships manifest when they emigrated to long island in may 1909. I can not find a marrige cert or birth for either of them. For some reason i had margaret listed with maiden name pugh but not sure where i found that or if it is right, however their 'friend' listed on ships manifest is thomas pugh so it could be right as i had that listed before i got the manifest. It lists his job on the manifest as a carter and says they are from bootle.

i found a marrage between william pinnington and a margaret harrison 1870 in st peter's liverpool but in the library today there were a few st peter's and i dont know which one to look in. can anyone help me?

Hi Pammie

The Marriage was registered in the June qtr of 1870. If you get the film reel which has marriages starting from the 1st April 1870 to 30th September 1870 you should locate the marriage.

You seem to be pretty certain of Thomas's birthdate, do you have his birth certificate since that would have given his mother's maiden name.

I hope I'm right in assuming from your first post, that William also emigrated, meaning that he was still living in 1901.

If I can't find a family in the 1901 census on Ancestry, it's often worth checking the http://www.1901censusonline.com/ site and on there I see living in Kirkdale a William Pinnington who is 46 years old, born Liverpool, with the occupation Timber Carter Runner.

There is also a Thomas Pinnington living in Kirkdale, age 18 born Bootle, occupation Timber Carter.

I can't find these entries on Ancestry.

There is a transcription mistake on that site that has the birthplaces of some of them as Lancas Bootle, I would suspect these are in the same family, perhaps you would know these names.

John 15 Labourer In Timber Mill
James 10
Benjamin 4

If anybody is able to check it out on Findmypast this might prove useful to you, if no luck there it might be expensive - £5 for 500 credits, lasting only seven days, but I wonder if you would be interested in checking it out. I don't know how many credits it takes to view an image, so wait and see if somebody is able to check FMP first of all.

Just as an afterthought, the reason I checked 1901 rather than 1891 is because we are aware that there are some areas of Bootle missing in that, which might be why you can't find them.

:D :D

The address on the 1901 was 8 Eleanor street, if it's the same William Pinnington (father of Thomas Pinnington) who married Elizabeth Southern in 1903, the address on Thomas's marriage cert was 8 Eleanor Street.

Transcribed on Anc as Rimington.
