Does anyone know anything about a 'Philanthropic Building' on Harvey Lane, Golborne round 1813/14 - this address is on the death certificates of my wife's g g grandparents. I've tried searching along Harvey Lane in the 1901 census but found no mention of such a named building.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I wonder if it is you that have been asking this question on other forums, but the date of the death certificates in question have been around 1913 and 1914, not 1813 and 1814.

Hi, many apoligies for the finger trouble - the dates should have been 1913/14. I have only asked the question on the Wiganworld website and of the Leigh branch of the society. This is my first - and inaccurate! - post on the society forums at the suggestion of Glenys at the Leigh branch.

It's one of those things that we find we are more used to typing 18+ dates rather than 19+ dates.

I hope some members who live in the area see your post and might be able to offer help.

Other than that I can only suggest checking the 1911 census which of course is nearer to the dates you are looking at.

Have you thought of being cheeky enough to approach the local Council, I would imagine Building Inspectors would have documentation of the building.
