Can anyone tell what the St Augustine Home in Toxteth was....& what it was like....
I have Catherine McCourt (mother-in-law of James Keane) as a "inmate" in the 1901 census......I can not find a photo of it from that time or a write up of conditions there....
The Enumeration Book confirms that this was on Aigburth Road, so it seems to be St Augustine's Home for the Poor, Aigburth (Little Sisters of the Poor).
There is a history which mentions the establishment "on December 2, 1874, the Little Sisters of the Poor were established in Liverpool, and on April 9, 1875, in Birkenhead."

Thankyou all for the information, it seems Catherine McCourt mother of Mary Keane (nee McCourt) was a inmate there in 1901 census.....a bit sad ...could it be possibable that Owen & Catherine McCourt came over prior to 1851 due to the potatoe plight in Ireland.. Owen McCourt died in 1866 I think.
