Robert Percy Evans

Post by BrianR »

Does any know anything about Robert Percy Evans who was born in 29 May 1889 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool and married Louisa Annie Maud Blows in West Derby, Liverpool on 23rd June 1914. They had two children (Brian Evans, born in 1915 and Joyce Evans, born in 1918). The family lived together in Liverpool but it appears that Robert Percy Evans left the family in 1931 (or thereabouts) and I am trying to find out what happened to him after that. Robert Percy Evans was a draper (at least in the early part of his life).

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Were there any rumours in the family as to what happened to him or even the slightest hint as to whether he even remained in this country.

There are no deaths that I can find that would fit his date of birth, only one in Knowsley but would have been born in 1901.

There is a possible marriage in 1940 but as only the initial P is given as middle name there is no certainty of this.

I've checked the Incoming Passenger Lists but I would suggest that the outgoing passenger lists are checked to see if he may have emigrated - somebody with a subs to Findmypast may be good enough to check the name for you.

Robert Pecy Evans

Robert Percy Evans was my wife's grandfather, although my wife was not born until 1947 and never met him. Brian Evans (Robert's son and my wife's father) would only say that his father walked out on the family when he was 16 (1931) which meant that he was forced to leave school (Quarry Bank) and go to work to earn money for the family rather than stay on and probably go to university. However, just before my wife's mother died, she said that she beleived Robert Percy Evans stayed within Liverpool (at least for some time after walking out on the family). However, I can find no trace of him after the 1911 census and the birth certificates of Brian Evans and Joyce Evans.

You say would rather than Could, implying that he may have known more than he was willing to tell. This could mean that another woman was involved. Have you checked the National Archives site for a divorce?

There is the possibility of a change of name since there are no obvious deaths by that name.

Again, as I suggested in your other posting, I would suggest you place a "looking for" notice in the Liverpool Echo, maybe asking for any descendants of Robert Percy as he may have had another marriage/relationship.

Hi Mary :)
I looked in fmp@, none with middle initial, too many of the same name to pinpoint him.

Thanks for all the help and advice to date. I will keep searching but with a surname as common as Evans and not knowing where he moved to (either inside or outside the UK), it is going to be difficult.
