Hi people,
I know who lived at these two addresses in 1881 and 1891 but need to know about 1884 or near to it. The addresses are on the Army records of the man whom, until very recently, I thought was my g.g.father, Robert Emery, as being his home address following discharge in July 1884.
The first address, 52 Garden Lane, Bootle, has been crossed out and under it is written 5 Laleham Street off Salisbury [Street ?. Missed off side of scan], Islington.
Curiousity, that killer of cats as me mammy used to say, has me wondering who he knew there.

Hi Dickiesam, looking at the list of directories that are held by some of our forum members, I think the nearest would be the 1887 held by Doreen. As we haven't seen her for a few weeks, perhaps a pm would attract her attention.

Hi Dickiesam
Garden Lane Bootle is not listed in the directories neither is Laleham Street.

Polling Distirct 15 Everton
1886 5 Laleham Street - Thomas Davies
1885 5 Laleham Street - Thomas Davies
1884 5 Laleham Street - Thomas Davies PD 5
1883 5 Laleham Street - Thoms Davies PD 5
1882 5 Laleham Street - Thomas Davies Houses in succession 1 Laleham Street (this means prior to moving to number 5 he lived at number 1)
1881 Census 3655 -folio 18 page 29
1 Laleham Street

Cant look at Bootle as it was outside Liverpool's boundary
Hope this helps

Hello Katie,
Thank you for the Laleham Street info. All I have to do now is wonder if my man was just going to be a lodger or whether he knew Thomas Davies. Perhaps an ex-Army friend? As you found, he is missing from the 1881 census just like Robert Emery so he could be a fellow soldier.
More grist to the mill!
Thanks again.
