birth 1852

Post by johnfosten »

Hi,

Is anyone able to look up a birth which I think happened in 1852.
Because of the common name it is not possible to narrow the search using the available sites so I can order a certificate.
It is for my great-grandfather,JOHN WILLIAMS.all the census returns and his 2 marriages point to a birth in 1852 in Liverpool.
His father was also John Williams(occupation Turncock) and his mother was Maria(nee Jones),i believe.
On the 1851 census the family were living at Upper Mann St,Toxteth and in 1861 they were at Edinburgh St,Everton.
Thank you for any assistance

John

Unfortunately we are unable to access birth records, only baptisms and that is only if we know the church the ceremony took place.

Please read some guidelines that have been collected which might give you some insight into what is available http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=6937

In the circumstances I would suggest that you contact the Liverpool Register Office with the information that you have http://www.liverpool.gov.uk/registrars_office/index.asp enclosing your cheque for £7 and they will check four entries for you, returning your cheque if the entry isn't found. Another cheque will be required for the next four entries and so forth.

It sounds daft but I once forwarded them three cheques to search for a marriage when there were 12 in a 10 year period and I didn't know which one was mine. They found the marriage because of the age, address and father's name and occupation and returned the additional cheques to me.

I've never used that check facility - it sounds very useful. Alas, if I read the GRO website correctly, it looks like they're going to cease doing that.

They are going to discontinue this service - this is why I recommended the Liverpool Register Office instead, who are very helpful with queries.

My apologies... I'm wet behind the ears, and still haven't quite figured out which office is which yet!

I've just updated some of our guidelines and added a section where I've attempted to explain the differences
