Dear all

If anyone visits the Liverpool Record Office, could you possibly check the parish register for St Thomas Seaforth for the baptism of George Evans sometime in1869, father James, mother Sarah.
Thanks any help would be much appreciated :)

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If anybody is able to undertake this task the reference number is 283 THS.

I must point out that unless you have found this entry on the IGI or Lancs OPC, you can't be certain their that the baptism took place in this particular church and so might be a fruitless search undertaken from somebody's precious research time, also we do like to narrow the date down for any search requested, such as which quarter of the year a marriage took place, so as not to waste their time. Baptisms didn't always take place within a short period of time after the birth, sometimes they occurred as a "job lot" a few years later to save money.

Please read some notes http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=6937

If his full name was George Evans and he didn't have a middle name he's likely to have been born in the 1st quarter of 1869. The other candidate with the middle name was a George Stocker Evans born in the 2rd quarter of 1869.

Not so! There is no fee for baptisms in the CofE.

I stand corrected as to the fee, however, I've found many baptisms taking place a number of years after the birth, often the children altogether with a few years in between their ages.

Mary
That rounding-up for baptisms was sometimes caused by the arrival of a keen new vicar or curate, or the cracking of a bishop's whip!

I wish Windy would tell us where the info came from?

IGI has a baptism for George Evans parents James & Sarah
26/7/1869 at St Peter's.
George is the only one thro the batch number.

How about this in 1881?
George 12 living at 18 Wm Henry St Bootle
parents James 42 Lpl genl labr in factory, Sarah 41, Elizabeth 16, Wm Hy 11, James 5, Frederick 2, visitor James Hardy 7 seamans son all bn Bootle.

Baptism William Henry to Jas & Sarah
St Peter's 31/10/1870 (again no other thro batch No.)
James ditto 1874.

I think I've found them after all in 1871
28 Mathew St Bootle
transcribed as CRANSRG10/3832/64/29
Error submitted to Anc$$$$$

Notice Elizabeth 16 in 81, there's a baptism in IGI Walton Parish Church parents Jas & Sarah 1864.
