I wonder if someone could tell me why an address I have in the 1911 census, Aubrey Street, has been listed in the enumerator's list as Spencer Street
Any help gratefully received
Cheers

Hello Erika,
Maybe it's that time of the evening but I don't fully understand your query.
Where did you get the Aubrey Street address from? A census document? If the 1911 enumerator has a family listed as residing in Spencer Street, then that is where they were on census night.
Perhaps you could post details of the head of family, age, etc so we can see for ourselves?

Campbell Elsie Head Widow 55 b. Glasgow
Campbell Peter Son Single 20 Barman b. Coatbridge
and
Campbell Laura Head Married 6 27 b. Liverpool
Campbell William Son 5 b. Liverpool
Campbell Elsie Daughter 3 b. Liverpool
Campbell Laura Daughter 1 b. Liverpool
I have downloaded the image.
I looked at the emumerator's list, (as I do in the hope of finding other family) and they are on the list living at 118, but the street is Spencer Street. Bit confusing.
Cheers

Hi Erika,
Contrary to my initial response, having had a look at the images, that extended family of Campbells, from Elsie down to the 1 year old child Laura, are all living at 118 Aubrey Street. The heads of household would not be permitted to enter any other address on the Census Form. This census was the first one to be completed by heads of households.
I'd say the error is to do with that list.

When I downloaded my census image, along the top are all the pages you can look at.
If you send me a pm with your email address, I'll forward you the image, save me trying to explain

Yes that's my man, although the name is spelt incorrectly.
However my next problem is finding when Lachlan died, which has been a brickwall for 20 years
On the 1911 census Elsie ( who's name is Isabella on all other documents)
says she was married for 32 years. Her and Lachlan were married in 1878 so he must have died around 1910.
I have searched and searched for this death to no avail and can't think where else to look.
His name is mis-spelt so often but I've looked at most alternatives, Laughlan, Lochlan etc.
He was born in Glasgow on 16 Feb 1855, so if anyone has any ideas, I'd be very grateful
This family only came to Liverpool sometime in the early 1900's as all the other documents I have are from Scotland where they were all born and bred.
Cheers

Hi Erika
Quick question about 1911
Elsie is listed as a widow?
It might seem a daft question but in one of my 1911 family records, the deceased children were listed at the bottom of the page along with hubby.
Thanks me dear

Wish I'd had that luck Nothing to be seen on my census apart from son Peter.
Others have suggested he might have left her and she just put down herself as a widow!
Trouble is I can't even find a death in the future either, this is a complete mystery

Maybe he decided to try his luck in Australia
I had looked at USA and Canada, but maybe Australia is worth a try, lots of ships sailed from Liverpool, so there could be a possibility he went.
I'll make a start and check through the web sites that are listed on here, to give me some ideas

As I haven't been able to find a death in England or Scotland, I am just trying all avenues at the moment!
As others have said, maybe he left his wife and hadn't died at all, but I really don't know.
I don't know why his wife wrote widow on the 1911, (they had been married for 32 years Ahhhhh that's nice), and then one of his sons married in 1914 and under father's name it says deceased.
It's anyones guess what happened to him, but I just wish I knew

Problem solved. According to the 1911 site support team, the enumerator made a mistake and inadvertently wrote Spencer Street on the Summary List instead of Aubrey Street. Support say that all the names on the List shown as being in Spencer St are in fact in Aubrey St.

I checked this one out and I think this Loughlin was born in 1880 in Ireland.
He married Lillien Brennan in 1908 in Bootle I think ( Lancs BMD ).

Have just printed off the form to send off to the record office for the marriage details, just in case

What I was thinking of is that he is recorded as being an Engineer. He could be a Marine Engineer which is why I suggested he may have died at sea. Might be worth looking in probate records to see if any wills are recorded. Also when did his wife die. There could be something on the headstone if she is in a private grave. Keep whittling away they always pop up
He was an engineer in the iron trade, so not sure about marine side of things.
They seemed to have led quite ordinary lives in Scotland and I'm not sure that where the family ended up in Aubrey St, would warrant a will.
But I'm determined to find out something, this time last week I knew nothing about the family after 1901 Scotland Census. Only coming across Peter's death and hazarding a guess at Peter's marriage has got me to this point
Cheers

Re Lauchlan's occupation.. On the Scotland 1901 census he is shown as 'Engineer, Iron turner'. Doubt very much if he would be a ready convert to a sea-going role at abt 50 years of age in 1905. Did check though for Marine and Consular deaths but got no hits.
