Hi Gwen and welcome to the forum.

I've split your request from those Holly will take to the Record Office since at present there isn't enough information.

Perhaps you could give us some details as to where you got this information, maybe you have Ellen's birth certificate with her mother's maiden name on it? If so please give full details from it.

Maybe you have the details from the 1861 census? please give those also so that we can see if we are able to find the family earlier or later.

When the marriage has been discovered, the church identified and the date confirmed, that will be when you may be able to ask somebody to do a look up for you.

If you read these guidelines you will understand more about what is available to be looked up.

Hello Mary A, I am very new to this type of reseaech and am jjust feeling my way. The only info I have is from Ellen's marriage certificate in Australia, I also know she had relatives, Finnan's,( the wife Jane was nee Lacey )who lived in Latimer St.This is about the extent of my knowledge on the mysterious "Ellen".

Can you work backwards and collect the facts that you have.

It might be easiest if you gave us all the information from Ellen's marriage certificate, and when she went to Australia and who with? Why are you uncertain as to the surname, what did she use on the marriage certificate?

I find no marriage for a Jane Lacey to a Finnan, nor a Mary Lacey to a McDonald/Donough. Could they have married in Ireland before coming to England

Well done Dickiesam.

Well the marriage is on www.lancashirebmd.org.uk for 1858 Liverpool, Register Office or Registrar Attended. The probability is that this was an RC marriage so I checked

http://www.liverpoolhistoryprojects.co. ... marriages/ and sure enough there it is.

So Gwenyth, unfortunately you couldn't ask for a look up at the Record Office since we have no way of knowing which RC church the marriage took place at, but you can order the details via the Liverpool History Projects site, as given above and the cost is only £3.00 instead of ordering from any other site at a cost of, currently £7.00.

Oops, I just looked more closely and the marriage took place at St Anthony's. Tag a request on here http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=9397 and hopefully Holly will get a chance to look it up for you. Don't forget to mention that the marriage took place during Q2 so she has to search only three months.

Thanks to all for your information. The info I have comes from Ellen's m certificate:- she m W Justin in Australia 1882. was b in Liverpool ca 1859 to Mary ,nee Lacey and Edward McDonald.

Family legend has her coming to Aust ca 1870 on her own and staying with a relation who was 'Another' Jane Lacey, who vame from Ireland, before she married here.

The previous Jane Lacey I spoke about m John Finnan and lived in the Scotland Rd area of Liverpool. I have a photo of this family taken ca 1916 and sent to Ellen here in Aust. Thanks, Gwen

Jane Lacey married John Finnan at St Sylvesters in Q4 1895.

As advised above, if you don't add your request onto Holly's post she won't know the details to do a look up for you.

Hi Gwen - bad news I'm afraid - I assumed St. Anthony to be RC - if so the film was so very poor I couldnt read anything.

I think the dates for St. Sylvester are not available and didnt have time to ask for help from the staff to check if the records are kept in the research room bit. I shall be going again fairly soon so if I can be of assistance then, please dont hesitate to ask.

Apologies for the disappointment - Holly

St Anthony has a database online of some baptisms marriages and burials. I googled St Anthony database and once on the site tried to find the marriage with no success but did find this who I think could be your Ellen

Mary E McDonough
Born Sunday 3 April 1859
Baptised Sunday 10 April 1859
Father Edward McDonough
Mother Mary nee Lacey

Godparents James McKew and Rose Brennan

I think you would be best buying the actual marriage certificate from the GRO the reason I say this is that the entry from the Catholic Church registers may not contain the father's names of the bride and groom whereas the marriage certificate from the GRO will contain this information and will help you to go backwards.
