Sidney Benjamin Willcox
Hi, wondered if anyone could help with this one. I'm trying to locate the burial place of Sidney Benjamin Willcox (born 1871 in Garston). He died in 1927, aged 56, in Liverpool, last known address in Seaforth in 1911. He was married to Sarah Jane Simpson.
His son, William Herbert Willcox with wife Harriet Leigh were both cremated at Anfield Crematorium and there is a plaque in their names in the crypt. Not sure if this helps or not!
Thanks for anyone who has the time to help.

Hi Lyn,
I think a line of approach to finding where Sidney is buried [or was cremated] would be to get his death certificate. That will provide an up-to-date-of-death address for his home and tell you where he died. The informant's address will also be there and if a relative could also be a clue.
If you knew his religion that would narrow down the possibilities and his marriage cert would be a pointer. His home address would also be a guide as to which cemetery he might go. If he died in a hospital they would have a record of the undertaker who collected his remains and, presumably, organised the funeral. With luck the undertaker will still be in business [not many go under even in the worst of times] and their records should be available to you. Most are contactable by email these days.
I am a little puzzled as to why I cannot find his birth in FreeBMD. I checked from 1865 to 1875. And further puzzled as to why I can't find his death there as well? Found his marriage to Sarah Jane Simpson in Mar qtr 1890 OK.

As Dickie Sam says you need the death certificate to get an exact date of death. Then you would need to have a search made of all the possible cemetery records. That would be quite a few!
Another option would be once an exact date of death was known that a search could be made of the local paper to see if a death notice was out in and gives the name of the cemetery. The local papers are held on film in Liverpool Record Office. Someone might be prepeared to do a look up once an exact date of death is known.

Thanks for the help!
Thanks both of you for taking the time to reply. I will do as you suggest and order the death cert for Sidney and take it from there. Is the best place to order it from BMD UK?
Best wishes

Hello Lyn,
Greetings from Co Wexford! I always order my certs direct from the GRO in Southport, England. Their website is here:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certi ... efault.asp
I suggest you don't delay because the cost is going up on April 6th, from
£7 to £9.25. See below.

That's a terrible price they must be maing a huge profit! Always order them either from the GRO (General Register Office) or the local register office - you will pay the same price from both BUT after 6 April it'll be £9.25). Anything else is charging you for them ordering from the same place.

Hi everyone
Good post!
Lyn, I also only pay 7 quid equiv in Aussie dollars & no postal charges, certs arrive in 10days.
GRO are GR8...twice the price from Canberra plus post.
My cuz Tommy (who I often rely on) is from Garston, I'm from Wavertree, so many people from these suburbs married, including sis & bro marrying bro & sis.
I just had to find your Sidney...he's a baby in Argyle Rd in 1871.
That was the posh end, fair dinkum!!
Our lot were from under the bridge
Good luck Lyn
