Liverpool to USA departure records in 1856-1858

Post by craig »

My ancestor, James Beach, came to USA in 1856-1858; however, I have been unable to find him in US ship arrival records.

Did Liverpool keep departure records of passengers leaving during the 1856-1858 time period?

Thanks,

Craig

What about James who was 7 yrs old when he arrived in USA 1857 from Lpool.
Were the rest of his family mis-transcribed??

Cheers

I was told this group was very helpful and you certainly are -- THANKS.

My James Beach/Beech was baptized Nov 11, 1838 at Forest of Dean.

In the 1900 US census he said he arrived 1858. In the 1910 census he said 1857.

His father, James Beech, and rest of the family (except my James) arrived New York Sep 15, 1857 on ship Middlesex. They had returned to England BY 1861.

Logic tells me he had to be on that ship, but darned if I can find him.

Because of your help and prodding, I believe I've found my James Beach's ship record under the name of James Beechy.

Now, another question. His parents came to US in Sep 1857 but had returned to England by the 1861 census. I'd like to know when they returned.

Did England (Liverpool specifically) keep records of incoming passengers during the 1857 to 1861 time period?

Hi

Maybe they went with him to make sure he settled ok..found decent lodgings etc..or maybe they had a family member over there who your James was going to stay with so they took a trip with him..and came back once they knew he was ok...

Ancestry only has Incoming passenger records from 1878-1960
