Glassworks at Warrington (1770s)

Post by DrD »

Can anyone help with information regarding glass making in Warrington during the latter part of the eighteenth century. I am researching the family = Dale, there some births in Warrington around the 1770s and I suspect that the father =John Dale was a glassworker.

Some misc. questions :

Where was the glassworks located ?
Has anyone come across primary sources for the glassworks referenced in books or at record offices ?

Any assistance gratefully received.

Googling Glassmaking Warrington produces a number of interesting hits with some information on the area.

At this time it was fairly common for the occupation of the father to be given at baptism so looking for the actual baptisms may help.

Thanks for the reply, we are working on the baptisms part via LDS so hopefully we can define an occupation to the list of potential Dale glassworkers. Nothing of substance via Google regarding location of teh glassworks or references to key people (owners/gaffers) in the period in question (ie 1770s).

I ggogled Glassmaking in WQarrington and got an article 3 pages long all about the subject including 18th century information. However when I tried copying the link it doesn't work the website begins allbusiness.com

This has a history of glassmaking in Warrington on it which may be useful. It mentions a number of premises and areas.

When you say you are finding the baptisms via the LDS I presume you mean you are going through a film of the baptism registers.

Have you tried contacting Warrington Archives?
