St Peters Church, Liverpool
In 1817 a relative of mine was married in this church.
Does anyone know whether I would be able to gather information about such as DOB or parents from these records etc
Also where would I locate the records as I live DownUnder
Many Thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated.

Hello Alison
A warm welcome from another downunder member
The crew here will give you much more help than I can.
I do believe parents were not listed only witnesses before civil rego and their ages were given as full or minor.
However, I'm learning all the time!!
All the best

Hi and welcome to the forum,
You would be able to view the Parish Register if you order the film through your nearest LDS Centre - search here for your nearest.
Unfortunately prior to 1837 there is not a great deal of information in the register, it may give the place where the bride and groom live as "of this parish" or not as the case may be, occasionally there may be an occupation given and the witnesses names, who may not be related as often church members took this duty on themselves.
If you post full details - names and date on here and change the heading of this post to request a look up at the Record Office, if somebody is going and can spare a few moments from their own research, they may be kind enough to check the register for you.

I was thinking the same thing Barbara, but the marriages on the site start from 1831.
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Liverpool/Liv ... index.html
I have the marriages from 1800 to 1837 on cd, but would need the names, I think the marriage would have to be looked up though at the records office.

It could be worth while checking Wills. See some notes on searching here. I know your John doesn't appear but if I were you I would investigate the James the joiner (1835) as if he was related there might be mention of John.
If you can't get to the Lancashire RO to check these I believe they will send a copy by post and I don't think it's very expensive.

Hi
Burial...28th Oct 1821 St Chads Rochdale Mary Midghall aged 23 Late Of Liverpool... spouse of John Midghall Occ Painter..
Abode Blackwater
so you have a birth year for Mary now c 1798 and you know she was from Liverpool..maybe John was working in Liverpool and met Mary.. married her and took her back to Blackwater..
Burial 15th July 1821 St Chads Rochdale John Midghill aged 3 months father John Midghill Abode Blackwater
Marriage...24th June St Chads Rochdale John Midghall Painter of Blackwater.
Betty Brealey Spinster of Shaw Clough
Witneses.. James Shaw & D Nield.
I take it Alexander Midghall is the son of John & Mary
There is a baptism for a Joannes Midghall born 20th Jan 1785 at St Mary Newhouse Newsham Lancashire nr Preston mother Ellen, which could be worth cocnsidering..

Thanks Mary & Collette
I was wondering about Joannes myself, the fact it was nearer Preston fits
I potentially can go back to the 1500's but have a gap from John of about 90 years! Yes Alexander was their son. Lots to go on, will follow up and thank you again for taking the time to look I appreciate it.

Hi Collette
Thats my thinking, I just need to join them. They seemed to migrate goosnargh > preston > liverpool
If he is Joannes and it only states his mother does this mean he was illegitimate perhaps
Thanks

Hiya
On the other hand whos the Alexander Midghall marrying in Liverpool in 1783 to Ann Cockshutt
Wondering if John Midghall named his son Alexander after his father.. that was the normal pattern back then wasn't it..
Maybe he just moved out to Blackwater for work..
Theres also an Alexander Midghall born Lpool 1807..could he be the brother of your John..going by Johns wifes birth year of 1798..John was proberbly born a similar time..
Need to find something on Alexander senior.... an occupation or anything really

Hiya
Alexander Midghall born 1807 was the son of James & Ann Midghall..
1790 Directory James Midghall was a Joiner living in North St Liverpoo
1790 directory Richard Midghall Joiner Plumb St Liverpool
So James & Richard must be brothers.. i recon..
For James to name his son Alexander and your John too theres gotta be a connection surley
so it could be James.. & Richard were sons of an Alexander and maybe brothers of John..
