WILLCOX FAMILY

Post by lyn willcox »

Hi, wondered if anyone has any information on William Herbert Willcox born abt 1897 and died abt 1964 in North Liverpool. He married Harriet Leigh in 1921 in West Derby, Lanchashire and they had 3 children: Herbert William Willcox born 1925, Edna Willcox born 1924 and Elsie Willcox born 1922. I cannot trace a birth cert for him but think he may have been born in West Derby. Can anybody please help?

If you do not already have it I suggest you get the marriage certificate of William and Harriet. According to www.lancashirebnd.org.uk they were married at St John Bootle. You may be able to look up the marriage register at Crosby Library or Liverpool Record Office or ypu can purchase the certificate either from the GRO or South Sefton Register Office. the marriage certificate will give you the couples' fatehr's names and armed with that should enable you to find William on the 1911 and 1901 census and then hopefully this will lead you to the correct birth registration.

Carole has requested a look up at the Liverpool RO http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=9306 perhaps you could tag a request on and fingers crossed if anybody is visiting they might be able to spare the time to do a look up for you.

Don't forget to mention the church and the date being the third quarter of 1921 as this narrows down the search.

Willcox

Post by colette »

Hi this is a possibility..

1911-12ish living at 15 Caernarvon St Seaforth

we have Sydney & Sarah Jane Willcox ages 40 & 36 Sydney was born in Bristol and Sarah Jane born in Liverpool..

They have 7 children including William H born 1895-6...there is a birth reg for a William Henry in West Derby 1895..but looking on the 1901, he has totaly different parents..

It could be a case of Herbert wasnt used on his birth reg but only added when he was baptised.

1901 the family are at 48 Brismark St Everton..

There are two William H Willcox deaths in one 1964 aged 67 Liverpool North the other 1965 aged 70 Bootle.

Do you have his death cert or are you 100% sure you know the year he died and his age..

Hi Lyn

Found the marriage at St John's Church, Bootle as follows:

18.7.1921 William Herbert Willcox - 27 - Bachelor - of 61 Granville Road, Seaforth - Sugar Labourer - Father Sidney Willcox - Sugar Labourer to
Harriet Leigh - 23 - Spinster of 250 Derby Road, Bootle - Father Albert Leigh - Labourer - After Banns by George Atkinson - Vicar of St Mary's Bootle.
Witnesses - Francis James Mc Keon and Annie Willcox. All signed

Noted earlier in the same church on 30.4.1911 the Witness James Mc Keon married Annie Leigh sister of Harriet as address and father were the same.

Hope this helps as I see that Collette has found William Herbert's parents in Seaforth.

For those who helped on finding William Herbert Willcox, thank you so much, especially Eileen who went out of her way to look for the marriage cert of William and Harriet. The fact that him and his father were both sugar labourers fits in great as his son Herbert William Willcox worked at Tate & Lyles for many years.

I am presently living in Southern Ireland but researching my husbands family tree. Thanks again for all the help. xx

Hi Lyn

Just checked for the marriage of Sidney Willcox and it is at Our Lady & St.
Nicolas March quarter 1890. He Married Sarah J Simpson.

Will put it on my list for the next time I go if you want the details from this, unless someone else gets there before me.
