Walton Hospital help with possible Baby birth/death cert pls

Hi All,

I wonder if anybody could shed some light on this death certificate for me it's for my Great Grandfathers first wife Victoria Annie Taylor nee Whitelock.

Death: 5th Sep 1920 at 107 Rice Lane - Victoria Annie Taylor - Age 20 - of 65 Argos Road Kirkdale, wife of Ernest Taylor Fitters labourer - Cause of Death: (1) Placenta Preevia (2) Shock after confinement - Signed by Ernest Taylor Widower of the deceased of 65 Argos Road, Kirkdale, Reg on 6th Sep 1920.

We wondered if she died in child birth due to her young age, but it is still not clear if she had a baby or not? did she lose the baby and went into shock or did she have the baby and then went into shock? There are so many Taylor babies registered in 1920 I wouldn't know were to start!

Does anybody know if there are any records I could search for at Walton hospital that may shed some light on this?

I have also been in contact with a Whitelock family connection who has kindly given me information on the whitelock family plot, were Victoria Taylor is buried with her family and there is no baby buried with her!!!!

My Great Grandfathers children never new that their father was married before and are so keen to find out if in fact they have another brother or sister out there!

The child may have been stillborn so there will be no birth registration. There will be a burial but you will have to look in the cemetery records. Possibly Anfield cemetery

Hi Katie,

Thank you for your reply, Victoria was buried in her family plot at ford cemetery on the 09/09/1920. She is buried with her mother Mary Maud Whitelock who died 1917 and brother Charles William Whitelock Died 1920 - Victoria died 6 moths later in 1920 - the only thing is that there is no baby listed in the grave with her! If she did in fact lose the baby, would the baby be buried with her?? I don't know.

The baby may not have been buried with her. She could be in the Roman Catholic Section at Anfield were he/she will be recorded as stillborn child of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor. I cant promise anything but I will do a quick look in Anfield

there doesn't appear to be any Taylor / Whitelock babies on ancestrys birth index..so its looking like she lost the baby..

It could be that she didn't give birth at all and they both died I had an emergency caesarian as I had placenta praevia, and the inability to deliver due to the position of the placenta nearly cost my life as well as the baby's. So maybe they were too late to perfom a caesarianm she went in to shock and so they both died, baby in mum. So there would not be a birth reg.

Also my grandmother died at 8 and a half months pregnant, so baby still inside of her when buried
