Hospital 1840s

Post by LisElliot »

Does anyone know whether there was a hospital or similar on Cumbermer Street, Toxteth Park in the 1800s?

I have a relative dying of Phithisis (TB) there in 1842 and a son was born there in 1839. On the 1841 census the family is shown as living in King St which is just around the corner.

Any information would be gratefully received.

Unfortunately, I can't confirm that there was a hospital at Combermere Street, but I remember attending a schools clinic there in the 1940s. The building was very much like hospitals of the period, with very drab tiling everywhere.

Thanks for that but I wonder if the clinic you went to was 100 years old. Possibly I suppose. Will keep looking.

Hi Lis,

Do you have a number on the birth cert for Combermere Street? I had a look at the streets in the 1841/51 census on cd and I couldn't find anything relating to a hospital there.
