Hi Irene
It seems odd to me that 2 women in their 50's would go to Aust especially if they had never married.
Going to join their children yes.
Perhaps you can't find them as Hannan as they had married??

Hi Irene

So sometime between Janet & Mary being born they have a brother Christopher also born in Barrow 1896, then they move to Belfast and another child is born Thomas 1898..does dad die and Elizabeth the mother remarry John William Ashurst as next child is Sarah Ellen Ashurst born Belfast 1903..then we are back to Liverpool with Beatrice being born 1906 and John William being born 1908.

1911 says Elizabeth had been married for 9 years to John William Ashurst.
Have you found a marriage for them ??

1901 they will be in Belfast..did the two girls Janet & Mary remain there ??? then come back at a later date..

there is a marriage for a Janet Hannan to a Frederick Edmondson in West Derby 1915.Walton Church.. right area as her family were living in Walton in 1911...

It would make Elizabeth 57 and there is a death for a John William Ashurst in 1921.

Janet & Mary's brother Thomas b Belfast 1898 was in the Army he was pensioned off.. 1915 aged 19 address 14 Gladstone Rd Walton next of kin mum Mrs Elizabeth Ashurst..

Still thinking she never actualy married John William Ashurst... and that she possibly married his brother under Hannan when John had died..

Wow loads to check out. the irish connection is correct as thomas hannan father to janet and mary twins also christopher who i,m following died in ireland in 1901, but guess what i,m off to lanzarote tomorrow. so search on hold for now. and yes it seems strange two spinsters in thier late 40,s or early 50,s would go to australia but the niece of these ladies is still alive and adament they went ? so a weeks sun and then back to it. but thanks for the leads Irene

Lucky you getting some sun

Its possible Janet and Mary's first hubbys may have died in the war.. so possible remarriages and that means new surnames doesnt it..did they have anyone overthere in OZ that they would have been visiting ??
