Me again
When you magnify the 1891 it says Lindsay for sure.
1901 as Lindsay yet the kiddies as Lindley prob over the page haven't looked yet.
I'm going to send an error for 1891 into Anc## using 1901 as confirmation and also for kids 1901.
This morning I received 22 emails from Anc## thank you for contributing regarding errors.
They must do them in bulk.

Yes Tina........defo "Lindsay". So many errors on the poor Lindsays. I remember Sue got a cracker a while back (not one of mine sadly) Transcribed as KUDSAY. Admit it was a very poor page.
The 1901 has them as Lindley but clearly as son, daughter of Lindsay!!!!!
I reckon I might just have to go through the WHOLE Liverpool census for 1891 to find William (joking!!!!)
Hugs to all,
Pauline.

Thank you girls, without your confirmation I was hesitant about sending in a correction, although I was fairly certain about it.

If anybody wants the reference for Hawke Street in 1891, it begins at RG12; Piece: 2913; Folio 132; Page 23
although I'm trudging along it as we speak.

As a matter of coincidence of addresses again, you may wish to take a note of these in case you discover anything about the marriage of James to Catherine Gill.
1891 5 Court 3 Hawke Street, Mount Pleasant - All born Liverpool except where stated
John Gill 55 Fruit Porter and his wife Ellen 39, children Jane 15, William 10, Ann 6 -
also noted are (not sure if that "son" is really meant) James DAvies SON (Head), 24 General Labourer and Lisetta Davies Mother 43 Charwoman born Cheltenham, Gloucester.
RG12; Piece: 2913; Folio 134; Page 28
1881 10 House, 9 Court Bolton Street, Islington - all born Liverpool except where stated
Robert Glenn 74 Blacksmith, born Plymouth and his wife Anne 74 housekeeper, son John Gill 40 Fruit Porter, Ellen daur in law 36 housekeeper, Mary Ellen granddaur 11 Scholar, Jane 6, Jeremiah 3, William 1, Mary Sharkey servant M 40, Jeremiah Conway Visitor 24 Seaman
RG11; Piece: 3628; Folio: 97; Page: 38
Although I can't connect Catherine to them, it's a great coincidence that they are in the right places in both censuses. It might still be a red herring.

I don't think all of Hawke Street courts are listed, certainly not the address given on the death certificate by "A Lindsay".

Uh-oh.......now there's a thing eh Mary? It's defo "2c 6H on the death cert - have I interpreted it wrong? Sub district Mount Pleasant? As the death cert is 1893 I'd hoped one of the Lindsay's would have been at that address two years earlier. Silly of me!!!!!
No I don't suppose you have interpreted it incorrectly. Just that as I trawled through the pages many of the dwellings were No # Hawke Street, and there were only a few courts listed.
I wonder if the enumerator was just lazy in collecting his sheets, or for that matter I would suspect many of those living in Courts might not have been literate and he would have been expected to complete a lot more for them.

Aw shucks! I've been traipsing round Pitt St as Williams future wife lived there in 1891 - hoped he'd be mistranscribed lodging nearby! Also did the area around Bolton St. May try Gerard St later as that's the address they both gave at marriage in 1891. Maybe he's been amalgamated with the Italian community? Occupation at marriage....."Musician". Ha ha ha!
Well ....thanks to you Mary....we now have the whereabouts of Bella, Andrew and James. Maybe Archie and William were off somewhere misbehaving before they married!
Some of the enumarators scrawls are absolute nightmares to read!!!!
Shall battle on.
Many thanks,
Pauline.
Well that didn't take long......1914 aged 50. West Derby.
Hmmm, now do I or don't I send for the cert'?????
If he was in the workhouse as a widower I shan't get much info from it shall I?
Sad hey P.J?
The crew will know more than I about death cert.
Probably rego'd by the Super/Matron at the time, details of cause of death, not much else I would think.

Hi Tina, I've been looking at a lot of sites with pics and info on the workhouses....Oh dear.....what dreadful places! I get quite sad thinking about my dear old ancestors doing time in them!
I remember in 1990 telling my Nan our Rebecca would be going to boarding school later that year...OMG - she had a hissy fit! Mum explained to her that it wasn't the workhouse! Poor nan obviously had memories of places kids used to be sent away to. Bless!
Good day. I have a Andrew Lindsay, born 1860. I think he immigrated to South Africa from Scotland or there abouts. I cannot trace him. Can you perhaps share his tree with me? He came to SA as a labourer in Knysna. Later it it mentioned in one of his childrens baptism cert that he is a groom. He died +- 1893/4....which I also picked up on one of his childrens baptims cert. He married Isabella Kynoch here is Knysna, South Africa. Could it be the same Andrew? A name that repeats itself on his childrens baptims cert is George Lindsay. ? Maybe his brother?
