Grrrr......William Lindsay!

Post by PJLong »

Evening all.
We're getting somewhere at long last. Marriage has William's father as John Lindsay. I now have the right parents. William's mother is Isabella nee Jackson. 1881 has the family in Bolton Street with William aged 8 years. John died 1872 (I have death cert) So looking for birth around 1873. Not so much concerned about that at present. Can I find William on the 1891? Can I fiddly-doo! Found his mother in Bolton St with her grandaughter, Victoria, aged 6. There IS a William Lindsay with mother, Mary, and brother, Thomas. This is who I thought was my William until recently. So if William married Annie Parkinson in Dec 1891 and gave his address as Gerard St - where was he for the census? His occupation at marriage was "musician". Oh, everything states his birthplace as Liverpool. Can someone guide me on this one please!
Cheers,
Pauline.

Hi
Is it only 1891 you are stuck on?

Hi Sue,
Yes....got him married with wife Annie and the rest of the tribe in 1901. Earlier he's with widowed mother and brothers (1881). I have Mum and Dad in 1871 with the brood. I'm just flummoxed that he's nowhere to be seen in 1891 - the year he married. There's been porky pies floating around too - on the marriage cert Annie Parkinson's age is given as 20.....she's 16 on the census! Her father is named as "John" when it's actually William. They are in Pitt St. RG12/2910. I have her birth cert too - August 7th 1875. It's just our boy William giving me the run around now!

Just a quick question PJ.
You've found his sibs from 1881 in 1891?

If he was a musician, he could have been tickling the ivories across the ATlantic...

Hellooooo Tina! How goes you?

Not searched for the sibs yet - will do so after brekky. There's Archibald Nelson, Andrew, John, James Angus and sister Margaret. Should be easy enough to trace two of 'em with those names! Never entered my head they could be elsewhere as they looked to be pretty peniless from where they lived? Got Andrew in 1901 with missus....ADELAIDE!
I'm just relieved to have pinned down MY William Lindsay but it bothers me as to his 1891 whereabouts!
Hugs,
Pauline.

Hmmmmm Tina? Just a thought....Andrews wife "Adelaide" and daughter "Victoria". Do those names bring anything to mind???? I'm thinking Australia BUT Andrew was defo here in 1901. Had a quick nosey and can't find any of 'em in 1891! Seems odd that Andrews daughter is with her nan in Bolton Street though?

Cross-eyed Pauline checking in!!!!

Spent nearly all day on this one and can't find ANY of the Lindsay boys in 1891! Elder sister Margaret was married to William Cameron and safe in Govan. So Andrew, John, James Angus and Archibald Nelson are missing with William! Anybody got any ideas?
I couldn't find Andrews wife, Adelaide, either. I thought she'd be the easiest? Tried "Ada" Lindsay too. The elder daughter of Andrew and Adelaide is with her Nan but where's the younger one - Margaret? She's 12 years old on the 1901 census.
All very worrying!
