German Name - Any Guesses?

I have a German ancestor with a maiden name on the marriage certificate - Pleal? If it sounds like that in English the German spelling may be something different like Plehl or Pliehl any ideas?

Thanks E. O. Yes I see it now, it does look like an "R" rather than a "P". I've checked a list of German names and it was probably "Riehl". If I remember correctly from German lessons at school the "e" after the "i" in German words gives an "ee" sound.

The married name on this record is Alpach as you said it's one of the variants of their name I've seen. I think the original German is probably Albach with maybe umlauts on the "a". Other variants are Albeck, Alpbach, Albaugh, Albridge...

I've made a great discovery on the Albach family (John Peter, Catharine, daughter Mary etc). I was looking on IGI at German Albachs and came across a place called "Burkhardsfelden". I've been looking for a while for a place recorded on the Census as Burgensfelden with no luck. I did a search for Burkhardsfelden and found a discussion on Ancestry for my Albach family who were from a village in Germany called Burkhardsfelden!

Apparently they arrived in Grimsby via Rotterdam in 1853 and there's German documentation around for them in the possession of researchers including a passport. The Albachs were originally called Johann Peter Albach and Katherine Rühl. A village just down the road is even called Albach! Johann's parents were Heinrich Albach & Elisabeth-Katharina Launspach. Heinrich's parents were Johann Heinrich Albach & Elisabeth Debus. Hopefully more information on the way.

I've now received the documentation and have this line back to around 1700! Lots of information about the family including dates and copies of original documents with English translations.

there are 81 family trees for ALBACH....about 20 from Germany, but on page 5 is
albach familytree in the town of ALBACH,PALATINATE,GERMANY 1698-1727
If you click on the green tree to the right you will see an e-mail address of the tree owner named W Wallace in America....so he will speak English.
might be worth contacting him....allan

918 familytree results for RUHL...let you search them ..lol
