They've certainly hidden themselves well in 1891 haven't they? Can you give us the details from William's marriage please, what is Ann's name and where did they give as the addresses and do the witness names mean anything?

On this website you can search for BDM in New South wales
www.bdm.nsw.au
It's an index but gives parent's names. Once you've tracked down William's marriage you should then be able to find which birth is is. The index starts in 1788 and goes to 1908. To buy a certificate costs 28 australian dollars

Wow i dont know where my eyes were looking but thanks. my cousin is astounded that her great grand father was australian but she knew nothing about him. I hope to get williams marriage cert sorted, but how come the cost is so high for a birth cert in aussie, I thought dick turpin was dead but he seems to be working for the aussies Irene
I don 't know where my eyes were either, I didn't spot that! good one Dickiesam.
Good luck with the certificate, anybody know the exchange rate? Is it really as bad as it sounds?

Wilsons, Certs and Exchange rates!
Just a quick note:
Wouldn't it be better to get a birth cert for John M Wilson, one of the sons, to get the mother's maiden name instead of taking a flyer at one of the possible marriages for William's spouse Anne?
Births Jun 1878: Wilson, John Marsden - W. Derby - 8b - 261.
28 AUS dollars is around £15.40. Exchange rate about 1.813 to £1. The certs are probably gold-plated and studded with opals!

Wilsons in Anc 1891
Its been a while since I used Ancs but isn't there an Advanced Search facility where you can enter the Census Reference? Anything else you want to find about John Marsden?

PS: I have edited my post above re a birth cert.

Hmm maybe we do get good value after all!

I found williams marr cert but still had reservations as on the cert he had plumber, but on census he was always a painter. I then found him on the 1861 with his uncle as a painter and plumber age 19, so this has given me other relatives to follow as i would like to pinpoint when he arrived in the country. He appears with his father and brothers they were born in england, but confirms he was born sydney on one of the world tree,s on ancestry.Just seen out family after a hectic day so come on to unwind oohh its bliss Irene
