Information thanks to Katie
"Archives for the Police Force or what remains of them are held at
The Merseyside Police Museum
Canning Place, Liverpool
Tel 0151 709 6010 ex 2100/2099. "
The address will give you details of what records survive.
At Liverpool Record Office there are the Watch Committee minutes 352 WAT. These will not give you personel details, however you should be able to get the dates of when your ancestor was recruited and his police number.

Cheshire Police
The Museum of Policing in Cheshire holds all the police records for Cheshire, and also Warrington Borough Police. In total there are 14000+ records of Police officers, many being born in Liverpool, the records start in 1857 and are more or less complete up until 1913, post this whilst we may have a record it will not be as complete as the pre 1913. We also hold Marriage Details of over 1000 officers from about 1850 onwards and pension records from about 1857. All initial searches are free. Re: Liverpool City Police
Thank you Mary. For all members here who are researching information about relatives who served in Liverpool City Police please understand that the Liverpool police force in the 19th century early 20th century was nothing like it is now area wise. For example, Old Swan Bridewell was originally Lancashire Constabulary. The building still exists on Derby Lane and as a young policeman I served from there when it was Liverpool and Bootle Constabulary.
Re: Liverpool City Police
Just a quote from Brian which searchers might find useful as there won't be a lot of records available.
Anyone asking about an officer who went on strike in 1919 should be told that the record for that person will just say, 'dismissed'.
