There is one hit I'm interested in on this Roll of Honour - is it definitely a photograph or are some of the entries documents?

I believe that the entries were provided by family members, who had to pay for the privilege. The list covers only a very small proportion of the vast numbers who fell.

As it may only cover what we already have on our soldier from the NA, I think it will have to wait until there are others to investigate before I get credits - 50p is a good deal, but the minimum spend is £5.

I didn't find the records on Ancestry .... I checked the military-genealogy.com site, am I being daft?

Doh! yes I am daft, I've found the entry! No picture I'm afraid but a nice write up, including giving confirmation of his grandfather's name (mother's father) which is good since I believe somebody's tree on Ancestry had something different.

Think I'll look for more surnames and see what turns up.

The following site has members with access to all sorts of military information and a helpful bunch they are, too.
<http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/>
Entry is similar to this one - user name and passWORD xportx, with limits on bits of access until a few posts have been made.

Indeed they are a very helpful bunch and have already responded to a co-researcher for the same family and turned up a lot of information, mentioned in this thread http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... 3&start=15 Ralph Marshall Lunt, brother to the Arthur Towers Lunt listed in the De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour.

About time I contacted my relative to see if she discovered in the National Archives what he did to merit the Croix de Guerre.
