Who was Gertrude Mary Piaskowski?? Born 1913
Who was Gertrude Mary Piaskowski?? Born 1913
Could anyone help with a mystery please?
We have a Gertrude Mary Piaskowski buried in a family grave but we are unsure who she was or what connection she might have to our family. Gertrude Mary was born in 1913 and died in 2002 in St Helens. Her surname is so distinctive I am hoping someone can find a marriage index for her, more than likely in the St Helens/Prescot area. Assuming a marriage from the age of 20 it could be from 1933 onwards. I have checked the records I have but no luck and the freebmd has nothing entered yet.
Again I am assuming that Gertrude was married but could also have been a spinster?
Lots of what ifs I know but if someone could shed some light on this question for us we would be very grateful. The other members of family that are in the grave with Gertrude are
Margaret Ashall buried 1920 aged 40
Her son Frederick buried 1920 0months
Her husband John Ashall buried 1955
Francis Henry Hill buried 1921 2days old who was nephew to John Ashall(mother Frances Hill(Ashall))
Frederick LLewellyn Jenkins (who married John's daughter Margaret Mildred Jenkins born Margaret Mildred Ashall 1909St Helens)
Who knows?
Any help really appreciated

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Despite her late marriage there does appear to be a child of the union, details of which I'm not going to post because of the date, this person might still be living.
If you are interested in making contact I would suggest that you place a "looking for" entry in the local paper - www.icliverpool.co.uk

Thank you for your help

The relation who is possibly still living is a direct relative of my mum then. Her cousin. My mum's dad was an only child, his mum tragically killed in an accident when he was barely 6 months old and was looked after by his grandparents for the rest of his childhood.
His father re-married and Gertrude Mary was his half sister. We didn't know any of this until recently when I offered to do my mum's side of our family tree.
I would be intrigued to know who or where they are now.
It could even be one of those stories when people live streets away and never knew each other existed!
Many thanks
Alison

Ashall family
Hello Tina
Yes you are correct with all the info!
My grandad was brought up with his Aunts and Grandparents (Henry and Sarah) when his mother died in an accident in 1902. We didn't know that John re-married in 1905 and started a new family with Margaret Smith from Ireland until I noticed a match on the census for 1911 when it was released but couldn't prove it for definite.
Jane Gordon is a lot harder to trace. I only have the 1901 census info for her when she is a boarder along with her father Robert both born in Scotland. It's not very specific so hard to trace Jane back to her family, no mother? or moved to St Helens for work? We'll never know
Thanks for your time and all of your help

Hi Alison
Thanks for updates
Poor young Jane.
In 1901 in St Helens Robert is a collector for sewing machines.
In 1891 they are in Sutton, Robert is a sewing machine agent 46 widowed, Robt jr 16 coal miner, Emily 14 dom serv, Jane 11 all bn Scotland.
Alexandria/rina?? is 8 yrs old born Bolton.
FreeBMD births june qtr 1882 vol 8c page 464
Alexandrina Maria Gordon
The purchase of this birth cert will be your best shot at finding the mother & her maiden as opposed to getting one from Scotland.
I'll just mention this only because Isabella was a popular Scots name at the time.
Death aged 39 yrs Isabella Gordon 1889 Prescot rego.
1881 census they could have been on the move.
Cheers

There's a Gordon family in Lpool 1901 from Scotland.
They also have a daughter Alexandrina, how strange is that?
Got to be connected?

Many thanks for all your help!
Hello again Tina
Thank you again for all your help and hard work. I appreciate all your efforts and your time
It's sad about the young children and babies that died along the way in those days.
It must happen in most family trees because of the times being hard or lack of knowledge when children were born. I do feel we have more than our fair share though in our tree.
Thank you for finding the Gordon family in 1891. It was a long shot that paid off because they were still in the area. Literally around the corner from where I am now!! They could have been in Scotland which makes everything very difficult to trace.
It's a small world.
I am always on the sewing machine too! I studied textiles at Uni and have always enjoyed sewing. A corny comparison I know but you say these things are inherited!!
My middle name is Jane too after Jane Gordon.
Thanks Tina
You're a star!

Hi Tina
Could I ask just 1 more question please? Do you have the address for Sutton for the Gordon family in 1891 please? I'm intrigued.

Thank you for lovely compliment Alison.
My daughter sews the girls dance costumes, so much patience with all the spangles etc. Her 2 great aunts(paternal) could sew anything on their old treadles.
It does make you wonder.
Here's the 1891 RG12/3025/77/45
8 Arnold St, Sutton, St Helens.
1911 has Emily, Henry, William G 13 & Daisy M 9.
I just had to look at birth in case she was Daisy May (love that name as I had a block doll called that
)
In fact she is Daisy MOULDS Haselden.
I've put my thermals on ready for a dander around Scotland

On recent maps there is only an Arnold Close which is probably where it used to be. My dad has an old map of St Helens disc so will have a look where it used to be ,behind St. Josephs Social Club at Peasley Cross traffic lights!!!
I go past there all the time!
I couldn't have sorted this without your help
Thanks
