Hi did mention had all info about Joseph(born in Aspatria, cumbria in 1806) family but not him - His mother was Tamar Brough married to John his father and Joseph had 4 sisters and 2 brothers but dont know anything about where or when Joseph went to Jamaica just that he went there, have a lot of theories but that is all they are. Know all about Eliza Ann and her marriage to Edwin Mitchell etc but could not trace through LDS/IGI anything about her and the siblings etc.have spent a lot of money in past trying to trace her mother without any luck. Oh there are a lot of Broughs in Cumbria and have gone down a few wrong paths in past(especially with the Tamars) but know that what I have now is right just want to know who he married and who Elizas mother is ? Need exact county she was born in to contact Jamaica re birth cert. but dont know that. If you can come up with anymore info regarding family great. Oh on Elizas marriage cert if states he was living in Keswick but couldnt find him there either.
I'm a bit confused here you say you know all about Joseph Brough's family but you don't know who he married, where he married, how many children he had or where he died? If I've misunderstood and you do know this please help us to help you by telling us this information.
Finding out about Eliza's siblings may well help finding out about her.
Who is living in Keswick on the marriage certificate - Eliza, her husband or AN Other?
According to the website Moving here Civil registration began at these dates in Jamaica
Jamaica 1878 (voluntary registration between 1825-1844)
Another thought I had was to look for a will of Joseph Brough as he had Cumberland connections as well as jammaican ones it's likely his will was proved in England. Probate indexes for wills proved in England after 1858 can be found in most County Record offices or large libraries. Wills before 1858 were proved in the church courts and thre are assoted indexes available. I'd try the National Archives Documents on line wills first nad then try googling Cumberland wills etc.
Midgei probably has all this as stated. I just thought I'd list it because of the dghtr's middle name.
George Brough bn Aspatria in 1821 is in 1861 census.(living in Wavertree where I was born )
Interesting that he has a dghtr Jane Tamar Brough 9yrs.
George was the son of John & Thamar in LDS baptisms.
The batch number shows 2 Sarah's perhaps the first one died?
and Wm 1816.
George is still in Wavertree Vale wid in 1871 with his children.

Marriage certs do not always show if the father was deceased. The newspaper info:
At Lindale Pen, St. Ann’s, October 10th, 1866, Mr. E. W. Morris, of Kingston, to Emma Lamar Brough, daughter of the late Joseph Brough, Esq.
that Northmeols found is, I think, a possible breakthrough clue.
It is quite probable that Emma is related, especially with the Lamar forename. So now you have a district where the family may have lived and a search area for the Jamaica RO. Hopefully an skp there will do a bit of extra digging.

Hi Midgei,
Having watched 'Who Do You Think You Are...', I believe Englishmen out in the West Indies, possibly managers of estates, plantations and merchant and shipping companies were usually referred to as 'Gentleman' with no specific attribute as to what he actually did.
The St Anne's marriage location reference fits with the Brough death that Northmeols found and is worth chasing up. Also well worth looking for a Brough will that might be lodged in Jamaica.
I also searched all the Consular and At Sea BMDs on FMP for a Brough without success. But that doesn't mean there weren't any.
Good luck,

Thanks a lot think when get time in next few weeks it will be worth a letter or phone call to Jamaica as last gasp seeing as got more info. Emails seem to get lost when sent to jam so will keep going. Does everyone have as many odd ancestors as I seem too. Got another one as well but will save that for another day.
