I was out today talking about family history to some friends and got the bug again
I may have found a person that matches my Grt Grandmother ( my brick wall ) - Margaret Sinnott ( details HERE )
I have looked up some info. on the 1911 census and this is the best match age wise, location, names ( my Grandfather was Peter ) etc.
Peter Sinnott - Head - M - Age 45 - Dock Labourer
Margaret Sinnott - Wife - F - Age 49 -
John Sinnott - Son - M - Age 11 - School
Margaret Sinnott - F - Age 16 - Dom. Servant
Living at 1 Beaufort Street - Toxteth Park area. Only a couple of streets from Dwerryhouse Street where my grandfather was born 5 years later.
I cannot see any way to definately link this Margaret - anyone got any advice ?
Also, how do I now trace decendants of John Sinnott as they have the answers I need ?

Have you ever tried to find a baptism for your grandfather? This may (or may not) have some reference to his father. Also it is likely to be in the area (parish) she lived in and may help finding Margaret's family.

The family from 1911 were not at the address in the Gores/Kellys 1911 Directory which I believe was noted the year before it was transcribed.
Cannot find Peter listed under assorted surname spellings.
Baby Peter was born in 1st qtr Tox Park 1916.
Maiden Sinnott.
E.O will probably know where to look for local baptism depending on religion.

I have a birth certificate, but had not thought to look at the baptism.
As far as I am aware he was a Catholic.
Any idea where I look for this ?
I have tried looking through the BMD records from Peters birth onward, but have never found a marriage - family lore says she went to Ireland and may have married there.

I don't know which would be the nearest RC church for the addresses in Toxteth Park. Hopefully someone with more local knowledge will be able to help. The registers will more than likely be lodged at Liverpool Record office.
Did Margaret remain in Ireland then or are her later whereabouts unknown?
I think what Tina means is that the information in the Directory would have been collected the year before so the 1911 Directory would have been made from information collected in 1910.
Myself and my father don't know much at all really.
I thought he would know more.
Alledgedly, my grandfather moved to and lived in Ireland until he was 21 ( approx 1937 ) and came to England to escape a life in the priesthood.
He met ( again, not too sure ) a Hungarian refugee ( Jewish ) between the wars and married ( no record ) her. She used an assumed name instead of her foreign name to get work and was Miss 'Brown'.
The family would have nothing to do with him because of this.
As you all know, family stories don't always bear much resemblance to fact.

Just a thught - your grandfather would have been of age to serve in the Forces during World War 2. Would that be worth following up if you know which service? His service records might give some information.

Am I right in assuming Margaret jnr took the little fellow Peter back to Ireland?
If she married, Peter may have his stepfather's name when he married in England?
I believe there is always a grain or more of truth in family memories.

Cross referencing and Dorothy may have found the marriage earlier on LancsBMD and Liverpool History Projects has it listed as Sacred Heart.
