Congratulations on your marriage Jamie. I hope you have many happy years together. I'll be glad to have any Yates details at all whenever you can post them. Often, names that I think are not my family, turn out to be just that.
I am enjoying the chat Tina - Hijack as much as you want!. I didn't think about mistrans. I'll look at Yeats.
Thanks again

Hi again,

I have a problem. Just looked again at the marriage certificate I have for Jane1851 and it says reg disctrict West Derby St James Church Parish of Walton on the Hill. Could the person who copied it to send to me have got it wrong? Jane live in Wesley St . I looked at a map of LIverpool and Walton doesn't seem to be anywhere near Toxteth. Any suggestions???

Hi Brenda

Not that this bit of info will help much - but yesterday I looked up marriage details for Colette - St james in Toxteth - that too was the Parish of Walton on the Hill.

You're right Walton & Toxteth are miles apart, maybe it made more sense years ago!!

Walton on the Hill was a huge parish covering much of what we think of as Liverpool and its environs today. The churches within the area were all chapelries within the area. Liverpool didn't have it's own parish until 1699. The other churches were described as within the parish of Walton on the Hill.

Formby and Ainsdale were a detached part of the parish of Walton on the Hill.

ps I did look for Yeats in 1841 & it brought up all the Yates again, no Joseph or Martha, perhaps they had died?

Thanks Ed officer for the explanation. It is like St Oswald Winwick being the parish for South Lancs before all the other chapels of ease were built, which later became parishes in their own right. I am glad that is sorted for me.

Thanks Tina for looking up 1841 Yeats and Yates. It seems I am going to have trouble finding out the father of Sarah Phythian nee Yates and her realtionship to Jane Weigh nee Yates. The census I have seen just gives her birth place as Liverpool, so she could have been baptized anywhere. I shall keep on looking though.
