Naming of Wright St, Liverpool.

I am interested in the origin of Wright Street - between Lime Kiln Lane and Scotland Road. In 1831 I have a Samuel Wright (son of Robert Wright) marrying, with address of first child's baptism in Lime Kiln Lane. (that interesects Wright St). Is this just co-incidence or is there any information that might link a specific Wright family to this street? I have followed Samuel and his family through the census' but know nothing of his father's family origins, which I am trying to discover. Appreciate any ideas.

For any of the crew who may be able to assist with this enquiry, there is a bit of background to this here http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.ph ... 153.0.html and you will notice that we are also searching for a possible marriage of Robert Wright and Mary with "Their eldest child was baptised in July 1797 in Nantwich ....After a few births in Nantwich they moved to Minshull , more children,then moved again after a few years to Over, had two more children then vanished with their 10 children after 1812. I have tracked 2 in Liverpool and one remaining in Cheshire. "

You mentioned an entry in the Baines directory of 1824 for a "Robert Wright woolen draper, living at Little Wooltan ". Do any of the baptisms of the children give an occupation for the father?

Yes they do - but it is not clear cut. The first few births in Nantwich record father's occupation as "in the cotton spinning industry". But then there is a move to Minshull which was rural except for a village with a few trades + the canal (I have been trying to find out if there was any canal construction 1802-06, but can't locate specific dates for that stretch - I am thinking of use of steam power here, as there was at the cotton mill in Nantwich). The family then moved to Over/Darnhall - rural mainly I would think, but possibly also occupations associated with the canal. No occupations given of father on baptisms at Minshull or Over. (Census data links 2 of the Minshull children with one of the Nantwich ones - so seems the same family)

None of this fits too well with a woolen draper, but I have noted quite a few Wrights at Much Wooltan - if it is in the same vicinity.

Hi all
just to clarify - are these spelling mistakes for Little Wooltan and Much Wooltan? Surely it is Little Woolton (which is now Gateacre and stretched up to Netherley) and Much Woolton (which is Woolton Village itself).

I had assumed so, but perhaps I shouldn't do that. If emc gives us the source of her finds of "Wrights at Much Wooltan" we would be able to clarify if it was the area in Lancashire we think it is.
