I managed to get to the IOM and do some successful research finding my John James Cain Cannell's parents via helpful information.
His father John Cannell married Catharine (changed to Catherine in later documents ) Caine 1813.
I learned at the archives main library (housed in Manx museum, Douglas ) that the use of Cain in my John's middle name was due to concern of losing family last name Caine.
Also that often DOBs are not recorded rather baptisms often 2 for the same child, due to prevailing religious beliefs of quick Christening before baby died, and a later more formal Christening sometimes as much as a year between these dates.
A comprehensive guide to IOM famillies and their professions is a book by Constance Radcliffe.
Thought I'd post this as many Liverpool families have connections with IOM.
