GREENWOOD FAMILY

Post by Elsa-Mary »

Hi
Thanks to Dickiesam, and a very wet day in Wexford, I was able to get death cert of my grandfather James Peter Lunt.
On cert ARTHUR W GREENWOOD was listed as son-in-law
I wonder if anyone . on forum has an Arthur W Greenwood as a relation.
I only know he married my aunt,Doris Margaret Lunt in 1933, and he was informant on my grandfathers death cert in 1964.
Address 9 Granville Ave Maghull.

Hi Tina :)

Only received marriage cert for Doris Margaret Lunt aged 23 to Arthur Wharton Greenwood aged 27, ( now now know what W stands for) this morning!!,which definately has James Peter Lunt as brides father !

Apart from learning Arthur was motor cyle salesman not much else.
So, may have to order death cert for Arthur in 1970.

Have a bit of a problem again with Doris Margaret, as with help the only Doris M THAT CAN BE FOUND SO FAR- is death Doris M LUNT ! Ormskirk 10f-125-Sept qtr.1967
Worry that this is NOT my Doris-so think if anything maybe Arthur's death cert may give a little more info.

Sometimes certs arrive here very quickly- but this time has taken much longer.
Cheers

Hi emeltee,
Thanks,

That is my problem-- the name Doris M LUNT !!!!
Doris Margaret married Arthur Wharton Greenwood in 1933.
Why isn't her surname Greenwood??

I believed that married women generally after divorce still use married surname,or am I wrong?
If there was a divorce how would one go about finding it??

So many questions.

Greenwood marriage

Post by Elsa-Mary »

Hi Tina, :D
What's your weather like!!-at last ours brilliant not too hot!!
My brother from Tazmania was over in N Wales recently, and was looking forward to going back,as he said the weather downunder was heading for Summer.

Yes I have the marriage cert of Doris Margaret Lunt to Arthur Wharton Greenwood on 28th August 1933 in Ormskirk Liverpool Reg Office.
I had tried many ways to find out what the W stood for as I thought it might help to sort out the marriage.( The Wharton apparently comes from Lincolnshire,Arthur's father has lovely middle name Crabtree!)

Thanks to another forum member in Wexford-Bless Him :D he found my grandfather.s death in Liverpool in 1964 ,if you remember I had been searching for a couple of years, very clever too as it appeared the age of deceased was 16-he thought there might be a print problem and if I could bring it up elsewhere and check, and it was 76 yrs!

With that info and a very kind gentleman from another forum, who went to a couple of crematoriums and discovered James Peter Lunt's resting place, sadly not noted except in records
So another place for me to visit when I can afford to come over.

So I have been posting in many places to discover if Doris and Arthur had any children, no luck so far.
Only one main Lunt to find John Lunt,James Peter.s father quite a prominent businessman by newspaper reports.
The family by then had moved to Wallasey/Birkenhead by 1913,and when John Lunt's daughters emigrated to USA IN 1920.1923 AND 1929 THEY USED A Wallasey address as father's contact, but I am not sure if John was dead by then or not-trouble is there are so MANY John Lunts
Have been searching recently for other Ulster rellies who emigrated to USA,and today have just had contact with a distant relative :D
I find now if I hit brickwalls-best look for someone else.

Sorry about the name duh ! I use that elsewhere

Ancestry has transcribed the birth indexes from 1916 to 1984 so that would be the best place to look.

Hola Education Officer,
Thank You

I didn't realise they now had all the death indexes transcribed, unfortunately I am not a subsciber these days-cannot stretch the pension I am afraid.
I have to hope that eventually FREE BMD willl have it,or Ancestry has some free access, usually Mary A LETS US all KNOW OF ANY GOODIES  to be had.
She's brilliant !!

I said the BIRTH indexes are now transcribed on Ancestry from 1916 onwards. I could add so are the marriages. The deaths are not.

freebmd and lancashire bmd are all dependent on volunteers transcribing the information. Freebmd is done from the GRO indexes. They're always asking for extra volunteers ............. I know some members of the forum are doing this and other fantastic transcription jobs.

So Sorry

I do NOT know if Doris Magaret and Arthur Wharton had children- so I have no idea who to look for, or how.
I am not a genealogist, just someone interested in my past, and I am learning all the time.
I am sorry I am not an expert.

I thought you wanted to know how to find out if they had any children and that was why I posted the information I gave you.

The only way to find out if the couple had any children is to check the GRO index from the year of their marriage.

As I note you are not in the UK the best place for you to look are the various websites that have the GRO index on them. These would be www.ancestry.co.uk, www.findmypast.com, www.thegenealogist.co.uk and there are others. Yes they are paying websites but many have the facility to just buy a few credits to check out the information you want. Remember that if someone was kind enough to have a look they have paid a subscription. Some sites are now putting in their conditions no lookups.

Sites that have the information for free are those were volunteers have transcribed the information. These generally have not reached the time you want.

Remember that if there are any children they could well still be living.
