Ancestry WWII records

Post by tonyhennessey1 »

Hi all
I just thought everyone would like to know that Ancestry have just posted WWII ARMY records for Deaths in a Roll of Honour and Prisoners of War. I've just picked off a handful of mine. Sad but at least I know what happened to them.

Hi Tony I found out where my dad was when he was a pow, he only passed away in 2004 ,but only told us he was in italy and then germany.
I know i have the right record as i sent for his army records a couple of years ago and whilst these listed the dates in Italy and germany it did not give the area. so it was good to find out at last Irene

Hi Tony,

I only found out by reading a free newspaper on a Liverpool bus that the records were going on the anc site yesterday, I found my grandad (well I think it's my grandad because only initialls given on the anc site, but the right place he was POW at Stalag 383. My mum had no idea what regiment her dad was in or anything about his army service.

I think I will have to apply to the veterans agancy for my grandads records, my mum was chuffed to bits when I told her what I had found, she was only 6 when her dad was taken to Stalag 383, he was there 5 years.

It does give a records office address on the info, but I can't find any link to it on the net.

Grandad was J A Huyton and he was in the Royal Engineers (I think he may have been in the TA with the RE.
