A Mahoney Mystery!

Hello folks,

I'm trying, in vain so far, to track down the deaths of my great Grandmother and Grandfather, Daniel and Mary Mahoney (also listed on various censuses as Marney and Mahony, just to add to the fun!).

My Great Grandfather Daniel was born c1861 in Cork Ireland.

In 1901 he lived at 47 court, 9 House Hornby Street, Liverpool. By 1911 he was dead.

I have narrowed his death down to these three candidates :

Deaths Mar 1902
Mahoney Daniel 39 W. Derby 8b 222

Deaths Dec 1903
Mahony Daniel 40 W. Derby 8b 428

Deaths Dec 1904
MAHONEY Daniel 40 Liverpool 8b 5

Does anyone have any idea how I can find which one is my Great Grandad without ordering all three?

Secondly his wife, Mary Gannon, born 1858 in Liverpool was a widow on the 1911 census and lived at 59 Kew Street in Liverpool.

I can't find a trace of her death anywhere - I wonder if anyone could help please?

there are a couple of possibilities on Lancs BMD site 1913 onwards

Hi,
Don't know any way to narrow the choice for death certs. Perhaps others here might have some ideas. You may have a multiple choice for Mary as well. I found these in the 1930s. The age match is very good.

Deaths Jun 1934: Mahoney, Mary B - 74 - Liverpool - 8b - 132.
Deaths Sep 1934: Mahoney , Mary - 74 - W.Derby - 8b - 444.
Deaths Dec 1935: Mahoney, Mary - 76 - Liverpool S - 8b - 25.

Being Irish, is it possible they could have been Catholics, the grave might be easier to trace - check the black box of microfiches in the Record Office that covers the three RC cemeteries, Ford, Yew Tree and Ainsdale. If you find even one of them has a grave you can cross reference to see who else is in the plot and that might identify the family or discount him.

Yeah, they were definitely Catholics, so checking the grave registers is a superb idea, thanks very much for that!

As for Mary I'm not sure if she re-married or not but family legend says not....

I would say it would be the Liverpool death Registration. As Mary has said Ford Cemetery would be your best bet. if he is not there try Anfield Roman Catholic Section.

These are people who could afford to buy a grave at Ford, sadly not those who were paupers.

Hi everyone,
Regarding that excellent link to the list of owners of plots posted by Tina, it is worth remembering that there could, and probably is, more than one burial in each plot.

My g.g.father is buried there with the plot having been purchased by his wife. I know that in the same plot are the bodies of his sister, a daughter and a g.daughter all of whom died between 5 and 15 years later. Oddly his wife isn't there! Still looking for her.
