Doormat Robber

Post by colette »

Haaaaaaaaaaaaa

I am never gonna live this Door Mat robbery down am i..God knows what Elizabeth Cook was thinking of..wouldnt mind but her hubby Archibald always worked as a Boiler Maker so why did she feel the need to rob..but then again shes not with him in 1891.. god knows where he and two of their kids are.. and again in 1901 hes there with the 3 kids and shes knowhere to be found..SO ME RECONS THEY HAD SEPERATED..so she must have been skint bless her.

Think i have found him in 1911 with a new wife and two little daughters he fits the bill..can't find her or her daughter my Great Gran anywhere..
Great Gran married in 1912 St Pauls North Shore address still Braemar St Kirkdale as it was in 1901, so i am baffled

Thought i would try Jane Wilson born 1883-4 as she married Alexander Wilson maybe they were shacked up together..but nothing plus she had a baby out of wedlock in 1903 named Elizabeth Cook after her doormat robbing mother.. cant find her either..

Maybe one day..

Hi Col
The positive for your Elizabeth is that she didn't do any breaking & entering, just nicked the doormats in the dead of night
Is there way of just searching for the street in 1911? I'm not that crash hot with this census yet.

So no Jane Cook or little Elizabeth in 1911?

There's an Alexander Wilson 28 (close to Jane's age) he's in W Dby rego 1911.

Sorry Col, not much help here.
At least Archibald was steady as you go.

Cook

Post by colette »

Hi i know Mary she makes me smile everytime i think of her.. i can imagine this lady in her late 40's with a shawl around her.. her half cocked up in a bun..looking up and down the street for passers by with a huge old sack on her back, and grabbing mats quick..and her poor son Archie also keeping watch haaaaaaaaaaaa..

I searched the whole of Braemar St in 1911 when we could do that..no sign..
Found her brother Archie in Commercial Road lodging he was a news vendor bless him .. he died not long after..the younger brother William Cook,,theres a few possibles..
And Elizabeth i have two i have found but dont think either are her one is a widow in an Institution aged 52 the other is aged 44 married for 24 years and is also an inmate.

I have one Jane but shes married to a Robert Cook so shes not mine..

I have an Archibald Cook aged 56 Boliermaker b Govan
wife Mary E age 42 b Lpool
Dau Annie age 7 b Lpool
Dau Elizabeth age 4 b Lpool
Married 10 years address 67 Robsart St

I can't see any marriage c 1900-1901 for this couple and hes born same place as mine and has same occupation,,so i am claiming him..i always thought Archibald & Elizabeth had an estranged marriage as i never see them together..and rumours that she was sent to Rainhill could be true... and he just moved on with this Mary E..BUT if it is the case my Geat Gran Jane had two half sisters and maybe more.. we never knew about..

Hi Col
I think it's great you can smile about Elizabeth.
I've always pictured her with a battered pram taking the "baby" for a walk in the middle of the night because "it" was teething. :D

It certainly looks like your Archie Col, no wonder you've claimed him.
"married" 10 yrs would be about right too as he was on his own in 1901.
Unless Elizabeth was in the nick??

1911 Directory has a Alex. Wilson mariner 63 Latham St Kirkdale.

Did Jan find him in 1914 at all?

Very sad about the 2 boys dying young.
