I remember one of our neighbours winning a Margaret Beavan scholarship to Blackburne House (Liverpool Institute for Girls) in the 1940s.

Hi Jan thanks very much for informative links.
It appears both Margaret & Ellen were involved with the Kyrle Society.
Just sharing this lovely photo of Margaret, Lpool's first Lady Mayoress

Just a little bit more info found on Liverpool RO website.

RefNo M364 CWA/3/3
Title Liverpool Kyrle Society
Date 1903-1913
Description "The Kyrle Society is named after John Kyrle [died 1724 aged 90] ...the Man of Ross... He conferred most important benefits upon his neighbourhood by the erection of a Church, the endowment of a hospital and an almshouse .... He also planted trees, brought in an ample supply of water... and laid out for the public a piece of ground commanding a beautiful view." (1913 Annual Report.)
The Liverpool Kyrle Society was one of many around the country, founded in 1891 with the aim of beautifying public spaces and benefiting the poor. In all there were 10 branches, or areas of activity, of which Invalid Children's Aid was one. By the end of 1907 this had grown to such a size that it was decided a separate organisation should be formed, the Invalid Children's Association.
There are 9 consecutive annual reports, which describe the key areas of activity and list the Committee members, as well as the volunteers for each branch. In 1970 both Ellen Gonner and Margaret Beavan were named as members of the Committee.
