I am searching for baptism records for Hulm's in Altcar:
Mary Hulm c1731
John Hulm c1766
Can anyone help?

Hi Hannah
There isn't a Catholic church in Altcar. I've looked at Altcar PArish Church Records and no baptisms for Hulms of those names around that time. The nearest Catholic churches would be Lydiate (registers from 1791) Ince Blundell (registers from 1785) and Crosby (registers from1801). Register info all taken from lancashire Record Office Catalogue.
However some earlier parts of registers have been transcribed in books of the Catholic Register Society
How certain are you they were in Altcar at this time?
I also looked at Formby Parish church as well with no success.
There's a Mary Holme christened 2 Sept 1733 at Sefton father Edward she must die as another Mary is christened 29 Aug 1736 Sefton father Edward. Both of these on the IGI.

Many thanks for your help.
They were definitely from Altcar as I have a copy of the residents at that time and also have a copy of a filitation order for Mary Hulm's illegitimate son John Hulm with Thomas Arnold from Formby.
This is as far back as I have gone on my family tree and I am trying to go further, if possible.

John Hulm
Hi Hannah,
I am also directly descended from John Hulme (later to become Hulm) & Mary/Thomas Arnold.
I am also stuck on John & Mary, but I have a very well-researched tree of John & his wife, Bella & their descendants. Mary and the young John were the only Catholic Hulmes in Alcar/Formby in 1767, and if I remember correctly (without digging out the recusants census), I think Mary was identified as coming from outside the area (from the statement of how long the resident had been there). I suspect she may have come from Halsall, Maghull or other nearby town. Given her son's name, odd are that her father was called John... though there is a girl named Alice baptised in the CofE in 1735 to George Hulm, a papist, in Maghull... which is nearby and the right time to be a sister of Mary. I don't see the spelling as significant, as it was the priest at St Mary, Highfield St, Liverpool who changed the family name from Hulme to Hulm when he started to baptise John & Bella's children in 1799.

1735 George Hulm, a papist, in Maghull
Hi,
I have only just been back on this since last year due to moving and work etc.
Does anyone have any info on George Hulm, a papist, in Maghull? I am a descendant of Mary Hulm 1731 from Altcar and I beleive she is related to George Hulm c1735.
Mary is the furthest I have been able to go on my Hulme tree so far so any help I can get would be much appreicated.
