Gaynor/Troy Brasenose Rd
(If this message appears twice I'm sorry, new to this)
I need help in looking for info about my Grandparents, Ted and Jane Gaynor, maiden name Troy. The lived at 101 Brasenose Rd Kirkdale in 1916. They had there 8 Children there until they moved to St Agnes Rd Kirkdale. I have serched and serched but cannot find anything about my Grandmother or her Family. I have Marriage certificate but all that gives me is her Fathers name, Joseph Troy. My Sister and I were always told that our Grandmothers Parents died when she was 2 and she was an only child and brought up by Nuns in Notre Dame Convent Everon. However, Notre Dame have no record of her ever being there. I would be very greatful if some one could help me or point me in the right direction in my serch. Thanks a lot, Betty.

Hello Scouserbetty,
On her 1916 (Sept qtr) marriage cert to Edward (Ted) Gaynor what were the given ages of Jane and Ted and what was the occupation of her father, Joseph? Also, can you give us the home addresses that they both gave and have you found Jane in the 1911 Census?
Thanks,
Dickiesam

Hi,
I definitely feel you should start backtracking Jane at the nearest census to her marriage, the 1911. It's when she is more likely to be in the area she marries in, but not a certainty.
You didn't give us the home addresses on the marriage cert. They sometimes help to find people.
Good luck,
Dickiesam

Jane Troy
Hi, me again!
This is the only Jane Troy I could find in the 1911 census. Searched with a birth year of 1893 +/- 3 years:
INSTITUTION - TROY, JANE - F - 1892 - 19 - Brentford, Middlesex.
You will need to buy credits to see the full page that she is on and what sort of institution she was in. The page will tell you where she was born and that will narrow the search in 1901.
This Jane is the only one I could find in or near Middlesex in 1901. Birth year very close but her father is James, and he's a gardener. The only other one is up in Yorkshire, but she's actually a Tray.
TROY, Jane - Dtr - Single - 9 - bn 1892 - in Leyton, Essex.

Hi Betty,
I checked both 1911 and 1914 directories for 101 Brasenose Road, and listed as living there was Nicholas Reide - Dock labourer.
Who were the witnesses at Jane's wedding?
Jan
Clarke, McLeod, Pendleton (Liverpool and I.O.M.) Coltham, Cowley, Nickson, Huyton, Grisdale, Quirk, Knowles, Street, Howard. Knubley.

Hi
I think the one in Brentford Msex married there too..
Marriages Mar 1921 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TROY Jane M Stone Brentford 3a 238
So would rule her out..
Its looking more likely as theres nothing showing up for her on census nor her dad that she may have come over from Ireland to work.. just like my own Great Gran did abt 1909 ish.
Its just a thought as surley there would be something we could find on her..
With you saying she was orphaned aged 2 ish..and shes living at 101 Brasenose Rd in 1916.. she could have been adopted so to speak..think you would need electoral roll to see whos there at 101 Brasenose in 1916..
Wish my Great Grandparents were alive as they lived 3 doors away from her at 95 from 1912-1940 odd

The 1911 census is searchable http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ although all Jane Troys appear to be over 20 years of age which might rule them out.
The 1911 census for England is http://www.1911census.co.uk/ and it's where Dickiesam found the entry he gave, whose birthplace by the way, is Brentford, same as she was living in 1911.

Hi Betty
It was my Great Grandparents.. but they had my Grandfather in 1912 at that address William & Mary Ralston..Grandad moved to Braemar St when he married and died in 1962 same day as his dad.
Yer as i said its looking more likely that she could have come from Ireland as she would be on the 1901 census..lots of young girls came over for domestic work my Great Granny Mary Burns who married William Ralston was in service in Seaforth to a sea Captain..

Hi Scouserbetty,
MaryA is correct about my search of the 1911 site although I used this URL:
http://betav3.1911census.co.uk/
With regard to the 1901 and 1911 reconstructed censuses of Ireland, neither are complete as yet but may be searched from here:
http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy/sources.html
And you can also search here for likely births/christenings, but while it is free to search, there is a charge for seeing the actual record.
http://www.irish-roots.ie/about-ifhf.asp
I do think that you should check the actual 1911 census page, not the transcript, for more information about the Jane I found there.
