Mornin everyone...after a late night /early mornin search yesterday have found Selina back to 1841 via her dad Joseph....On the 1841 there are 2 families but Selina and her brother Edwin are with Parents Joseph and Nanny(( Nancy as on other census's)) The Shaw family seem to have been living in Almondbury for a very long time.
One thing is puzzling me on the 1881 census and living in Fred's house there is a Mary Shaw housekeeper born Liverpool cant make out if shes married ...and there are 2 children one 9 one 2 months both A Shaw... If Mary is married I suppose its possible she married one of Selina's brothers .. But where is Selina
she doesnt seem to be on the 1871 census anywhere either...
Couldn't find the marriage of Fred and Selina... but luckily for me
Education officer has found it Yes!! Thank you!!
Ann

Here are Fred and Selina on the 1871 census living at 37 Dove Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool.
RG10 Piece 3805 Folio 99 p.9
TAYLOR, Frederick, Head, Married, Age 27, Warehouseman , b. Huddersfield, Yorkshire
TAYLOR, Selina, Wife, Marr. 31, b. Huddersfield, Yorkshire
" Henry, Son, 2, b. Huddersfield, Yorkshire
" Emma, daughter, 11 months, b. Liverpool
" Susannah, mother, Widow, 61, b. Huddersfield, Yorkshire
" Elizabeth, sister, unmarried, 17, machinist, b. Huddersfield, Yorkshire
It appears on this census that Henry (Harry) was born in Huddersfield while on the other censuses he is born in Liverpool. Possibly the enumerator's mistake?

www.maps.google.co.uk has Calverley on New Mill Road, Holmfirth, this might be a house named after a village that used to be there but may be no more, but if it is a clue then it is only about 5/6 miles from Ingbirchworth.

As Susanna is Fred's mother on 1871 census... I have pinned her down to 1841 and I think she is Susanna Jackson of Ingbirchworth...I have found George Edward b 1834 and Charles b 1836 both christened there with parents Susanna and John ((IGI))
From there I have narrowed down 2 Susanna's and her parent s and 2 John Taylors parents can't decide which ones are correct
Oh what a conundrum...
Thanks for the map details it seems thats where the Taylors originated How the story is unfolding!!!
I still do have to find Fred's birth details so I can send for a cert...then I'll know for certain who his ma was... always have to go the extra mile just to be sure.
Thanks so much Ann

Ingbirchworth is just north of Penistone and if the family was Cof E baptisms would have taken place at Penistone church. That would also have been where marriages took place. The registration district for Penistone and Ingbirchworth was Wortley and there is Fred Taylor registered Wortley in 1844.
However if he was born in Almondbury or Huddersfield the registration district would have been Huddersfield. Maybe we can find them in the 1841 census.

The 2 boys entries for baptisms are at Penistone as I expected. The IGI has Penistone baptims up to 1844 and as only the 2 boys show they must have moved to Huddersfield shortly after 1836. I think they are in Colne Road. I would therefore expect the other children to be at Huddersfield Church.
John Taylor married Susannah Jackson on 28 April 1834 at Penistone Parish Church. At this time Penistone parish was huge.

Calverley mentioned above is between Leeds and Bradford and miles away. That marriage is 10 years too late.
The Penistone parish records may have further information than you get on the IGI. I believe one of the local societies has transcribed them I'll investigate further.
Have you found John and Susanna in 1841?
Ed Officer
As you say there are 2 possible Johns and Susanna. You have to hope that the actual registers say "of Ingbirchworth" so you can be sure. John's father's name will not be on the marriage entry they didn't go on until post civil regostration in 1837.

It's good to have first hand geographical knowledge of an area.

Further to my previous post Barnsley FHS have transcribed some marriages in short batches but that seems to be it. Barnsley FHS seem to have a look up service for what they have BUT the link was broken.
The actual registers are deposited at Wakefield (Archives). However they are on film in different libraries. I've seen them at Huddersfield. Your best bet would be your nearest LDS (Mormon) Family History centre. They will order in a film of the register for a small fee and you then have to go and look at it at the centre.

On the 1851 I found
Ingbirchworth
James Taylor H widow 73 farmer of 90 acres employing 1 lab
George son 34 farm lab
Luke son 30 farm lab
Jane 23
William 20 farm lab
Robert grandson 2
all given as born Penistone
Then on the IGI I put in the batch number C042481 (Penistone) and asked it to find me Taylors with a father James. Guess what it came up with all the children of the census above plus more and John one of the ones born in 1811. I reckon this one is looking very hopeful.
I'm going to try and find where they are farming now.

Hello...Yes I found the family on 1841census John and Susanna with George and Charles in Ingbirchworth.Education Officer wrote:Ingbirchworth is just north of Penistone and if the family was Cof E baptisms would have taken place at Penistone church. On the IGI found...Susanna Jackson b 1809 and her siblings parents either Benjamin and Helen (ellin) Hobson. There is a Susanna born !819 to Thomas and hannah Rowley but I think this is too late. I feel sure she was born 1811 going on previous census.
On the IGI for Penistone church they dont seem to have film or have I misread that ??
I found again on the IGI John Taylor b 1810 parents James and Elizabeth Parkin but there is also a John and Elizabeth Jubb

Your right all of the children came up for all of the families
Thanks so much Ed officer I am hoping you are enjoying your jaunt around your old stomping ground

The LDS (Mormon church) who do the IGI have a film of the Penistone church registers this is what I thought you could request to your local LDS centre
My money is on John being the son of the James I found in Ingbirchworth. Please could you give the reference for 1841 as I can't find them in that census.
