Evans offspring - but which parents?

Post by PJLong »

Evening all, I'm back with another "Lindsay" puzzle! This is one that I'm not sure how to get round. I was looking on Ancestry for offspring of Isabella Lindsay who married Joseph D. Evans in 1922 at Christ Church, Everton. Scribbling away furiously at all the kids produced by Evans/Lindsay until I noticed this clever lady was giving birth to 2 or 3 little 'uns each year! Hmmm, what do I do here? Well I checked there were no other Evans/Lindsay marriages........OH NO.........an Arthur Evans married an Alicia Lindsay in 1916. So I'm stumped! How on earth do I find out which ones belong to me - no way am I sending for...hold on......11 birth certificates! Somebody help me....please?

Hi Pauline,

Wow what a dilemma!!

I am sure (but don't quote me on that) the GRO do a checking service on birth registrations, not sure how you would go about it, but if you contact them and explain your dilemma, I think they can check the births with the parents names etc.

I am sure someone in the know will be able to help on this.

Hey Jan.....how're you doing? Yes I've sent for cert's before and asked for a maiden name or fathers christian name but I wonder if it's possible to say the mother MUST be an Isabella Lindsay? I reckon this one is going to take a phone call to explain exactly why I'm in trouble! Fancy two flamin' Evans boys marrying two Lindsay's in Liverpool within 6 years. I'd understand if they were brothers and sisters but they're not related.

Am now in everyday contact with my "new" Lindsay cousin down under. What an absolute joy finding them has been.

Thanks for help offered. Pauline.

I am fine ta Pauline,

I think you can ask for a check on the mother's first name on the certs, I would concentrate on the ones born after the marriage in 1922 as being yours if you know what I mean, the other couple being married in 1916 doesn't help, as they are a bit close together and does put a spanner in the works so to speak.

I am not sure how much GRO charge for the search. Maybe even contacting Liverpool Reg office at Cotton Exchange with the same question may be of help if GRO want too much.

See, I knew some of you bright sparks would help me out. Is that a trip to the records office Irene....or can I do that one online? Did I see today somewhere that the church was demolished on 2006? It makes me sad to see the places our old folk married, were baptised etc are now gone.
Thanks flower. Pauline.

Hi Irene,
I'd been bracing myself for my second visit! However, I'm going to do it on a Tuesday so I can ask for help from the treasures who have the patience with folk like me who don't know where to look! I'm relaying all the finds and advice offered back to Melanie Lindsay....my new found second cousin down under. You would not believe how grateful I am to all the "stars" on this forum who got me in touch with her. She's coming over in October and I just cannot wait to meet her. Hopefully by then I'll have found more Lindsay descendants in the area. Fingers crossed eh! Cheers. Pauline.
