LRO Look-up please - re Canning Street PResbyterian Church

Post by philrob »

Dear Readers,

Can some kind soul please have a look in the LRO and let me know whether there are any records kept there for Canning Street Presbyterian Church. My G/Grandfather William Robertson was appointed a deacon there in 1883. He died in Liverpool in 1903. I am wondering whether there is any reference to him in any records relevant to the Canning Street Presbyterian Church. The church incidentally later became the German Church and was demolished later on.

Many thanks for any help! :D

Hi

According to the handlist of nonconformist records published by the liverpool Record Office they hold the following records

Presbyterian
Canning Street Church (M 285 PRE8)
Parish Register n.d. (1840)
Communicants roll book n.d (1840)

Perhaps trying to find your ancestor mentioned in the news might throw something up.

Dear Education Officer,

Many thanks for your information re LRO records.

Do you have any idea at all how extensive they are?

What I am thinking is whether some kind person could have a look in the records for names if I give them appropriate names and dates to have a look at.

Also do the records contain any photographs by any chance?

Because I live in Australia I may have to hire a local researcher to have a look for me.

Thank you again for your information re the records.

Hi

By the look of them they look as if there is very little there. I would understand the 2 items to be of 1840 which I believe is earlier than you want.

I think want you want is the Deacons later Elders records of which there is no mention or minutes of the church meetings.

I'd still go for the newspapers
