Hi,
I came across the address from 1881 census on ancestry, i would like to know if anybody can help was that the name of the street or could it be Manor, college st, the head of the house hold was Duncan Mc coll manager copper smelting works, i am not interested in his family except there is an Alice Elizabeth Haulgrave age 6 visitor, scholar born Northwich Cheshire, i have mislaid an Elizabeth Alice Houlgrave born Northwich 1874, just wondering if she is the same why is she there, never come across any marriages to a Mc coll so do not think it is a relly, thought maybe a school but all others are in their 20s or older.

Manor College St
Well that was very careless of you John, to mislay a young girl like that
I'm not sure it looks like Manor, possibly Manse - could Duncan McColl have named it as if it was a Scottish house? It looks like it would be in College Street.
Certainly two of the daughters were school teachers, although whether they worked in a school or had pupils at home it's unclear.

Hi Mary,
I know careless of me, i have her birth and marriage but the inbetween years, do not have any reasons i can think of to be in St Helens, bit far for a school, do not think the parents were well off, they were salt workers, mind you the Family ancestors moved from Hale in the 1840s to Northwich maybe a relly, it appears the kids were moved between rellies, life would be a little easier though if the numerator spelled the names of those that moved the same as when they were where i first found them, one mother left her husband and moved to London from northwich with the kids and went from Houlgrave to Houlgrand and changed her christian names from Mary Jane to Mary Ann, anyway i will keep chipping away.
Thank you for the suggestion on the scottish name Manse, maybe you are right, maybe staying with a teacher, when the time is right the answer will turn up.
