Teulon St 1901 to 1911

Post by Tina »

Hi everyone
We have a family here in 1911 census.
Their house cnr of Walton Lane.
Which church would be the closest for their kiddies baptisms please?
We believe RC as father born in Cork.
I'm not familiar with the area.
It says Walton in 1911 Directory & Kirkdale rego in census.
Thanks in advance.

Tina

My trusty 1930s road atlas shows churches marked by + but I cannot see one in Walton Lane itself.
Possibles:
St Domingo Road (Our Lady Immaculate) ?
Fountains Rd (St John Evangelist) ?

A bit off my beat, but hope it may help. (Source - Churches of Liverpool and its index provided by SKS)
Hot & humid here!

Hi Tina,
The info you have received is correct St Johns and Our Ladys I lived a few Sreets away in WOODHOUSE ST and had been to both schools mentioned. St John's being the nearest parish church to Teulon st demolished way back. Joe member no 5668

Sad to say the last time I passed St John's School there was nothing left but rubble, church is still there though. Many a notable baptism took place there (mine :) and my kids)

I think Teulon St was demolished in the early 1970's

Baptisms are held in the Liverpool RO for 1871-1941. The date of birth would obviously be needed as a starting point, plus a little bit of time just in case they weren't baptised immediately after birth.
