1938 Directory Look Up Please (or near to 1933 if there is)

Post by MaryA »

Working down my list of things to look up and I've arrived at a fantastic photograph Tony has put up on his website http://www.leverpoole.co.uk/1.001/p/lvr ... rd/15.shtm taken in 1933.

I wonder if anybody could please check whatever 1938 directories they have and see if "Mr or Mrs" Lunt's first name is listed as being the proprietor of the shop on the corner of Christian Street and Gerard Street. It looks to me like a general grocers but I might be wrong, it's a very smart looking shop anyway.

Anything earlier for the same location would be a bonus but we won't know if it's the same person until the 1930's has been checked.

Thanks a lot

Hi Mary

No Lunts named in Christian St in 1938.

I checked Christian St and at 19a is a Mrs Margaret Lang, shopkeeper. That address is on the corner of Hunter St, Gerard Gardens ( Corporation Dwellings ). The next address then is for 47 Mrs Margaret Williams, shopkeeper.

There is nothing listed for Gerard St.

Not much help I'm afraid :(

Cheers

Thank you very much for checking Erika, I knew it was a possibility that five years later they might not still be there, but it was worth asking.

Best wishes

Growing up in Liverpool in the 1940s and 50s, I remember a chain of Lunt's bakery shops all over Liverpool and the Wirral. I think they were Geo. Lunt & Sons. I think the picture could be of one of their shops.

Thanks for your thoughts - I agree it could be part of the baker's chain, but if it's possible I'd like to confirm it, just in case it's a sole trader.

Hi Mary

Had a look on the 1911 directory and there was a Geo. Lunt's bakers shop at 27 Christian Street.
