Australian archives.
Good Morning all,
I'm still hunting for my Lindsay rellies down under and have been in contact with a very helful gent at the archives office in Melbourne. He says he's found records pertaining to the assisted emigration scheme the family used. I can pay for and view these records online.........can anyone tell me if there will be any useful information on them before I fork out? I have dates of birth and the ship they sailed on. There are no electoral card records for them - is this odd? Thanks for any advice. Pauline.

This is obviously beyond the knowledge of some of us, but I know Tina will see this soon and help all she can but to spread your enquiry further, why not send a pm to Cassie in case she misses it.

Hi md,
Yep, been there - done that! It's where I started my hunt. The chap at the archives office has been really helpful BUT I need to know if I pay to get these records online.....will they give me anymore info than I already have? I've found a couple of bits with names and dates of birth plus the ship and dates the family travelled. Hoping for more to be honest! I'd just be disappointed if I paid for info I already have. I pm'd Cassie earlier and hope she can give me some inside details! Fingers crossed! Pauline.

Hi Pauline
I'm sure Cassie is the best "man" for the job, I think she lives in Melbourne.
I've not much experience in Aussie archives being a ten pound Pom.

Morning Tina....you didn't by any chance land on those tropical shores aboard the Castel Felice in 1970 did you?
I reckon I'm very close to getting contact with my long lost second cousins!
Got a bit of decent weather here again today.....unusual for Wimbledon fortnight!
Hugs'n'stuff, Pauline.

Hi all
Sorry that I missed this request. I have received Pauline's message and have managed to find a little information for her.
Tina I live in north west Vic adjacent to a large wilderness area and National Park. Isolated, remote and wonderful, but thank goodness for the internet with my addiction to this wonderful hobby - family history.
Cheers and best wishes
Cassie

Hi Pauline
I think you will find that the papers online are well before the emigration of your LINDSAY family:) It is however an excellent resource and well used by me.
Cheers

Pauline that is bad news from Ryerson. It would be a huge commitment to do lookups as the website is very popular in Aus. I note that they no longer have a volunteer to view notices from one of the largest newspapers in Melbourne as well.
Let me know how you fare with SAGHS. I do visit Adelaide frequently but never have time to go to the State Library. Funny how business appointments, health issues, grandchildren and not to mention shopping...for food mainly, get in the way of the things I would really love to do. I actually have an every growing list of things to do at the State Library....one day
You could also try this avenue - Ask a Librarian at the State Library of South Australia. You may receive a positive response as you have the date of the notices. Should have thought of this before....getting slow I think

Emphasize your location and the importance of finding details in notice to enable you to re-connect with your family. The name of the funeral director will be a help as if the Privacy Act doesn't come into play, they may be able to give you the name and address of the person who arranged the funeral. If they are reluctant just ask if it was ...and name the children...... who arranged it. If it is was the son, he may be in the Adelaide district whitepages.

You mentioned you have visited Adelaide, do you know anyone there who could help you? Just random thoughts really.
Cheers
