Burial of Infant Twins John and Margaret Lee November 1946
My parents John and Mabel Elizabeth Lee lost twins in November 1946 John lived one day and Margaret for 3. They were born on 22nd. I guess people were just expected to get on with life as they had all been through such a lot with the war etc.
Mum was never sure where they were buried - she believed that they were buried with her grandfather John Egerton but he did not die until February 1947. Is it likely that they would have waited so long? How could I find out where the twins and/or John is buried? They were living in Everton at that time my parents were staying with the Lawlers (Maternal grandparents) in Roscommon Street - now a park!
Thanks

That is very sad not to know where your babies were buried. Nice thought aht they might have been with a grandfather, but t would be highly unlikely for a burial to wait two months. My first question would be to ask who made the arrangements for their funeral? hoping that if it was in the hands of a hospital or some such there might be records of where their usual place might have been.
From Roscommon Street they might have chosen a churchyard, St George's for example if they were still accepting them, alternatively Anfield or West Derby Cemetery.
However, you might be luckier in finding them if they were RC as the index for Ford Cemetery is available to check in the Liverpool Record Office.

They will be buried either at Anfield Cemetery or Everton. They have a memorial to all the young babies at Everton. And as Mary said Ford Cemetery.
From my experience for locating burials for babies they will be with all the other little babies.
I would check Anfield first

Burial infant twins Margaret & John Lee 1946
Thak you for the comments - I think my parents were from an age where the loss of infants was more common - they certainly both lost infant siblings. I think they weren't encouraged to focus on the loss but to "get on with their lives". They were both ceratinly affected by the loss greatly but were amongst thousands who were affected by the tragedy of war and loss. Mum certainly spoke of the experiences of the birth from time to time right up until she died last June but she was a very pragmatic woman who got on with life with great energy.
They were born and died at Mill Road Hospital. How can I find out if they are buried at either of the cemeteries mentioned? Previous attempts to find people at Anfield Cemetery led nowhere.
regards
Sandy

Entries mentioned on the National Archives site appear to confirm that records have been passed to the Liverpool Record Office
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/hosp ... 51&page=84
You may be lucky in finding entries amongst these records but that would depend on whether the hospital took responsibility for the burials or if the family did.
Records for the cemeteries are also held at the Liverpool Record Office.
It would be a matter of checking them individually for C of E burials, although, as mentioned, the RC cemeteries have a collective list making it easier.

Hi Sandy,
I can only think of perhaps contacting Allerton Cemetery, they may be able to tell you where the babies might be buried, they have the burial registers for other cems there. They may charge you, but it might well be worth it, I think it was £10 a search last time I heard, but it used to be free, but sadly they do charge now which is unfortunate.

Clarke, McLeod, Pendleton (Liverpool and I.O.M.) Coltham, Cowley, Nickson, Huyton, Grisdale, Quirk, Knowles, Street, Howard. Knubley.
I was always hesitant about recommending that course of action since I telephoned them to ask the cost and I was advised that it was £10 per cemetery, per year, the price could mount up very quickly.
I also heard recently that the records had been transferred to Anfield.

Burial Infant Twins John and Margaret Lee Nov 1946
Thanks everyone. I have looked at the Liverpool Records Office website - not a productive exercise however I did complete their survey
I have sent an email via the website so that may give me some more advice. My dad was strongly Cof E so they would have been buried that way if he was involved. Sadly he died in 1996 and the topic never came up.

Hi
I feel you have 4 possible ways forward but before that you need to check that the cemetery records for the time you want are held at Liverpool Record Office otherwise only suggestion 1 is available. Also do you have proof of exactly when the children died?
1. Pay Liverpool cemeteries to look up each cemetery for around the time of death
2. Pay Liverpool Record Office to do the same
3. Employ a local researcher to do this for you
4. Ask for a look up specifically naming which cemetery you want to be looked up with the date etc. You may need to repeat this request and hope that some kind person is willing to look in a number of cemetery records.

Burial of Infant twins John & Margaret Lee 1946
I obtained their birth and death certificates whilst visiting home in 2007 but ran out of time to go further so yes i do have evidence of their death. If using a local researcher would be cheaper than the LRO that would be my preferred option - please advise.

I believe you have been contacted by one or two of our good hearted forum members who might be able to help if they have time from their own research. The reason I didn't suggest that you request a look up is the lack of knowledge of the burial place, and this might take some time to discover.
The Record Office is closed this week and next so you won't get a result very quickly, but please let us know any outcome.
Good luck

lee Twins - thanks
Thanks Mary, You are correct I have had offers of help for which I am most grateful. I will certainly keep you posted.
Your clever use of other spellings for Winrow inspired me to try it with some other family with wonderful results. I have added 2 generations to the Lee side of the equation as my gr gradfather Peter Lee had the good sense to marry someone with the surname Tidyman (Ann Jane) - much easier to find than Jones, Lee or Lawler. It is very satisfying thank you.

Burial of Infant Twins John & Margaret Lee November 1946
Can't thank your members enough for the kind words and the work put in to help me solve this family mystery. It is a great load off my mind to be able to complete the short circle of their lives. We (my sister & brother 8 me) were always aware of their birth and loss before we were born and the sadness it created for our parents.
I look forward to coming over at some stage and paying my respects in person.
Thanks again

I'm glad you have got a result. Our Irene is wonderful to our forum members, the number of times she's come up with the answers is uncountable.

Hi Sandy
I've just posted a reply on another topic to Irene who should be a "National Treasure".
I really hope you can get to UK, to say "hello" and you are not forgotten, little loved ones.
