Hello
I'm trying to locate the death record of John Wood, who was born in Cumberland in 1832, but moved to Liverpool around 1855 and married in Everton in 1857. I can trace him in every census from 1841 to 1871, but then his wife remarries in 1877 (her status is widow), so I'm assuming that he died some time between 1871 and 1877.
I cannot locate his death in BMD. He was living in Toxteth Park in 1871 (Brenton Street) so I've checked the Toxteth Park Cemetery records, but no luck there either. His occupation was Engine Turner, "Engraver who produced overlapping geometric (engine turned) patterns on such items as cigarette cases, ladies compacts etc" (http://rmhh.co.uk/occup/e.html).
This is a long shot, but does anyone have access to any parish or cemetery records that may help, or have any other suggestions?
Many thanks
Heather
Help tracing a death please - John Wood
Hi Heather
1873 Directory 40 Brenton St has a John surname Michael, shipwright.
This Directory not the best a lot missing. Can't find any Wood surnames.
Could his death be listed as Woods?
btw Rebecca remarries in West Derby St Mary the Virgin.

Hi Heather it appears that Captain John Eynon was quiet a man according to the Liverpool Mercury Newspaper..a well loved captain who recieved honors for saving lives..

He married Rebecca Wood Widow Sep 4th 1877 at West Derby Church her being the second daughter of G.R Lawrence Esq of Gosforth Cumberland.
Daughter born 7th Aug 1878 at 26 Georges Rd
Freaks & Frollics Of A Liverpool Lad......
Stepson of John Eynon, Robert Wood stole £393 from John Eynon and headed off to Dublin, he even bourght a gun on the way..gives all the detailed info..
If you dont have any of this info let me know i can save images and send them to you.
John Eynon died 22nd March 1898 at 15 Georges Rd West Derby.
As for John Wood its a mystery as to his death reg unless he died elsewhere..
buried in Anfield..
Eynon Ann (Wood )
Eynon John (Captain) (Wood) so John & Ann and possibly Rebecca and maybe one of her sons..

Fantastic info Col.
I tried the census for Rebecca just on the off chance she may have a little one before hubby died, no luck.
Also tried to find Robert.
1881 she had Amy to new hubby & Rebecca by 1891.
I wonder what happened to Robert?
Heather will be surprised.

A lovely bit of scandal there Colette, nice one.
Heather, might I suggest you try some of the links on here
http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=5739
espcially the Old Mersey Times site you will see a lot of links to many different cemeteries and MI's so worth trying all of the pages.
You have to remember that most of these have been or are in the process of being transcribed by volunteers so they are likely to be far from complete, but at least it's a start.

Golly, I'm new to this forum and wasn't expecting replies already!
Thanks for the info about the other characters in this plot, but I have most of the information. I'm descended from both Rebecca's husbands because John Eynon's daughter Louisa from his first marriage to Ann married John Wood's son John from his marriage to Rebecca.
I've tried the various online links you all mention, but no luck. I wouldn't mind copies of the excerpts from the Liverpool Mercury if that's possible please Col (I'll send a pm with my contact details). I wasn't aware of the scandal surrounding Robert Wood, though his nephew was also tied up in a scandal and died at the Adelphi Hotel in peculiar circumstances.
By the way, Tina might like to know that Rebecca's mother was a Cornthwaite...
Thanks for all your help.

Thanks Heather for the "Cornflake" snippet.
I've some "fringe dwellers" in my tree from Whitehaven who married in to the family so I had to do some wombating.
Your Eleanor is not one sadly.
Good luck with Wood search.
btw I sent an error to Anc# as they had George Roper Lawrence first names all wrong.
