Great grandfather's iffy dates!
Good Morning all......from a member not entirely with it - got back from hols yesterday and the time difference, flights, over indulgence, etc have taken their toll. Hi Morag, bear with me for a while whilst I get my names and dates together! I'm still not convinced my Lindsay's are yours......William has three different father's names so far!!!! I'm going to have to give serious time to pinning down, somehow, who he belongs to! Shall get back on board soon. Take care all.

Great Grandad's iffy dates
Hi PJ,
Hope you had a good holiday. Glad to hear from you, and I understand that you want to check out the facts to see if our lines really do connect. I'm happy with John Lindsay Pattern Maker because everything ties in with the Scottish records I have also found - but with those different father's names, you've still to get to that point. Meantime, I need to try to find John and Bella's death records to complete the picture at my end.
There's a naming pattern in Glasgow (and perhaps other parts of Scotland ) which helped me a lot - oldest son named after father's father, oldest daughter named after mother's mother, 2nd son named after mother's father, 2nd daughter named after father's mother - then they might move on to Uncles and Aunts. Margaret Lindsay's oldest daughter was Isabella Jackson Cameron, for instance.
Hope to hear from you again if you think our Lindsays are the same.
Meantime, I've hit a rich vein of info on my mother's side (Costains in Isle of man and in Liverpool/ Lancashire/Cheshire area and won't get back to the Lindsays for a few weeks).
Look forward to hearing the outcome of your research.

Hi Morag, this naming policy has me flummoxed! My Grandad....John Lindsay had sisters named Margaret, Isabella, Annie and Phoebe. One brother named William James. I know his father was William Lindsay but going back a generation is a nightmare with such common names! I'm convinced if I find where William is buried I'll discover more info. I have his death cert but am completely stuck with resting place as I spent 4 hours at the records office hunting for it. This bloke has led me a merry dance!
I'm now going to find his second wife's burial (ha, easier said than done!) Perhaps they are together? Shall keep you informed of anything new. Good Luck with John and Bella.

Hi Morag, having gone over what I have so far I'm sad to say I don't think we come from the same stock! My Lindsay's come from Port Glasgow and before that....somewhere in Ireland - possibly Donaghendry, Tyrone. I'm certain I have the right folk as sugar boilers way back in the 1850's. The names Thomas and James came down through the generations. Lovely to have found another "Lindsay" though.

Hi, PJ,
Just caught up with your last two messages. Sorry to hear that we're not related, but some of the census info folk sent in reply to your queries has still been useful to me. Still haven't got round to chasing up death certs for my John and Bella, but will get to that soon.
Good luck chasing the Irish links- I haven't started on that yet. I've got a Leslie and a Jackson to trace over there.
