Post by Marie »

How do I find out the date of a death to order a death certificate. I have a name age District Volume and Page. Do I have to go into the Records Office?

The name is Ellen Barnsley Age 40 District W.Derby Vol 8b Page 475 March 1922.

Thank you

Hi there Marie,

That's all you need!

If you go to http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ you can order your certificate online with the details you already have.

All you need is the year, the quarter, the District name, volume and page, and of course the person's name.

Certificates cost £7 and take about a week to arrive.

WEST DERBY DEATH

Thanks Dave, I did go on a Gov Records site and started to key in what I had but it refused to go any further when I could not give an exact date. I will try this one.

Cheers

There is a question on the page asking

Is the General Register Office Index known?

You have to make sure you check "Yes" otherwise it requires the date.

DEATH CERTIFICATE

Thanks Mary,

I noticed that bit this time, must have been tired last night.

Have done it now, I have also been on the sites you advised and put searches for the Williams siblings on.

Very grateful for advice.

Hi Marie
Just to say hello before your post goes to page 2.
Any news yet?
Did George B Barnsley whom she married die in 1921 aged 55yrs? or have I got that wrong?

Thanks

Tina

DEATH CERTIFICATE

Post by Marie »

Hi Tina,

Just got back from the Lakes today, I was convinced that Ellen Barnsley Widow, formerly Williams was my relation. I received Death certifiate on return from my weekend only to discover that the death was registered by her son W.H. Williams. As both her sons had initials R or C I am afraid it is back to the drawing board.

Thanks for your interest anyway. I am thinking of joining Ancestry at the half price rate.
